Job Description:
The Math Support Specialist's primary goal is to provide supplemental and intensive math support and intervention to students at various grade levels (K-5). This involves planning and implementing math support services, working cooperatively with school personnel, and using data to inform instruction. This position supports students in three elementary schools based on need as determined by State, district, and classroom assessment data.
Qualifications:
- Must hold valid Ohio teaching license: (PreK-3, PreK-5, 4-9 with a math focus, Intervention Specialist)
- Master's Degree
- Satisfactory criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law.
- Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
Preferred:
- Advanced graduate education, a credential, certificate, or degree in math instruction is also preferred.
- Demonstrated evidence of student growth in numeracy on an approved assessment
Essential Functions:
Direct Student Instruction:
- Provide math instruction to small groups or individual students as a supplement to the core Math instruction.
- Deliver remedial instruction in foundational math skills, including number sense, place value, basic operations and problem solving
- Plan instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, with clear objectives based on the best practices in math instruction
- Work in various settings, which may include providing support within classrooms or in small-group "pull-out" sessions.
- Create a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to learning.
Assessment and Data Analysis:
- Assess, identify, and address learning problems in students who need math intervention.
- Analyze math data to establish goals, monitor student progress, and develop concrete steps to address identified needs.
- Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports as required.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Plan collaboratively with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, school psychologists, and principals to meet the needs of striving mathematicians
- Serve as a resource for parents and caregivers, communicating with them as needed.
- Collaborate with school leadership to support professional learning for other staff on research-based math instruction and assessment.
- Work with school-based teams to implement state requirements or procedures
Professional Duties:
- Assist in the development of the program design in collaboration with the district leadership team..
- Participate in regular and ongoing professional development and training as required.
- Establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with students, peers, and parents.
- Assist the administration in implementing school policies and attend staff meetings and school-related functions.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Superintendent's Designee, or Superintendent.
Required Knowledge and Use of Equipment and Software:
- Electronic devices include copiers, printers, scanners, laminators, and fax machines.
- Keys and locking mechanisms on doors, cabinets, windows, etc.
- District-employed software. By way of example, this includes any specific technology the District uses, including Google Education software: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Forms, Sheets, and Google Ed products.
- Applications (apps) or devices used to calculate numbers or used for purposes of a dictionary, thesaurus, grammar correction, or other applications accessed for this position.
- Phone equipment and all phone functions include transferring, holding, and sending callers to voicemail.
Working Conditions:
- May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Frequent interruption of tasks to support students, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and visitors.
- Must occasionally work nights/extended days due to school functions.
- Must be able to assist others by moving around the school and grounds.
- Must be able to lift and move 40 lbs.
- Repetitive hand motion (e.g., keyboard, typing) or voice-to-text.
- Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout their employment with the District.
