Position Summary
What you'll do as a Scientist at STERIS
- Demonstrate understanding of STERIS scientific technologies, cleaning, Thermometry, rinsing, biofilm, biocompatibility, chemical compatibility and disinfection science
- Support NPD and Sustaining projects per supervisor or management guidance
- Design, develop, and carry out test plans for assigned projects with supervisor or management input, to include the recording, analysis, and scientific evaluation of experimental data.
- Develop and validate methods using different analytical instruments (e.g. Spectrophotometer, UHPLC, TOC, Florescence, …) using state of the art research for cleaning, rinsing, disinfection, biofilm, sterilization and microbiology.
- Propose and adapt test methods in line with project needs. Suggests ways and methods/techniques to improve the quality of products and services offered as well as the execution of operations.
- Write test plans, test protocols and test reports with supervisor or management input. Conducts experiments and document them per SOP and in line with project needs and goals
- Perform analysis and resolves issues using critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques
- Participate on cross functional project teams and maintains good working relationships within STERIS Corporation.
- Ensure efficient laboratory operation through acquisition and inventory control of consumables lab supplies and chemicals
- Maintain the Research Notebook recording detailed information on activities undertaken, existing conditions and observed results.
- Display excellent laboratory skills and an understanding of relevant scientific principles theories
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance and calibration on analytical instrumentation.
- Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or Microbiology or relevant degree is required.
- Hold at least 5 years of progressive laboratory experience.
- Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment
- Possess basic microbiology laboratory skills.
- Skilled in the use of basic microbiology laboratory equipment.
- Ability to work in a methodical and organized fashion within established timelines.
- Fluent in English and French.
Preferred
- Knowledge of regulatory agency guidelines/ standards such as FDA/EPA related to medical device is desired
- Demonstrated ability to apply statistical analysis techniques
This position requires knowledge of English due to the nature of the duties involved, including regular communications outside the province of Quebec, training, email communications, and frequent meetings and interactions with English- only employees.
