Description
Metropolitan Companies is searching for a high performing CFO with strong leadership capabilities and the ability to continually multitask and execute the strategic plan for the companies. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic growth CFO who will be instrumental in scaling the company with the COO and principals. Current CFO will be transitioning into a COO role due to growth so there will be a transition plan in place for the right hire to assume the role and slowly take on the responsibilities of the following departments: Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Tax.
As the CFO, you will be responsible for developing and implementing financial strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives, overseeing financial reporting, financial close processes, tax, analysis, and budgeting, analyzing financial data, and providing recommendations for margin / profit expansion.
To qualify for this position, you must hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, have 10+ years of financial management experience. Preferred experience in construction or retail and a strong background in accounting. You should also have a proven track record of success in financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and analysis, possess strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team, have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to think strategically and make sound business decisions, and knowledge of accounting principles and legal requirements.
Departmental Responsibilities
Treasury:
- Manage Financing process and negotiate terms on construction and development projects for multifamily, homebuilding, and commercial projects.
- Manage all reporting requirements for banking relationships.
- Manage cash flow, financial operations, and cash flow forecast for all companies.
- Oversee bank draw process for construction financings.
- Manage home office / internal bank for principals.
Accounting:
- Responsible for the oversight of the accounting teams.
- Ensure all bank and account recs are completed.
- Direct internal audits, review accounting, and administrative controls. Ensure proper controls are in place via Controller.
- Coordinate Tax & Accounting books, tax liabilities / payments.
Finance
- Manage the finance team
- Underwrite all development projects via financial models and return metrics. Continually improving the methodology of financial evaluation and financial eval process.
- Proactively monitor and provide timely and accurate financial reporting to company Principals to help manage the businesses.
- Analyze all corporate departments for efficiency and staffing requirements.
- Identify areas of opportunity to improve financial systems. Work with IT to implement necessary changes.
- Manage intercompany billing for all corporate shared services departments.
- Identify areas to improve financial performance via financial reporting and develop financial reporting where visibility is lacking.
- Continually review company financials and employ strategies to improve profitability.
- Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of a comprehensive job cost system.
- Monitor, report on, and make recommendations based on employee overhead and utilization projections.
Continually assess and evaluate all financial systems for capabilities and constantly implement improvements.
Manage long range financial plans for all companies.
Tax:
Manage long range financial plans for all companies.
Tax:
- Manage tax return filings for all companies / entities in a timely manner.
- Make strategic planning suggestions for all partners and businesses based upon tax opportunities.
- Annual tax forecasts for all companies and partners, and execute all quarterly payments. Strategize and coordinate with the legal department on all transactions.
Accounts Payable:
- Responsible for the oversight of the accounts payable team via Controller.
- Ensure AP audits are completed, review results, and tighten controls / process
- Monitor invoice volume / payables, tie to cash flow operations.
- Automate accounts payable and funding processes. Focus on continual development and process improvement.
Accounts Receivable:
- Responsible for the oversight of accounts receivable.
- Work with the business to ensure the collection of A/R and work with the legal department when needed on collections issues.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 15+ years experience in high level financial management positions in large corporations. Small company experience is not applicable.
- Clear and effective communicator
- Strategic and critical thinking abilities, problem solving abilities.
- Enjoys working up and down the scale of duties (i.e., can create a spreadsheet followed by a meeting on long range planning)
- Leadership skills with the ability to delegate, motivate and inspire team members.
- Impeccable honesty and integrity.
- CPA and/or Master’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
