Career Opportunity
The city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs department invites applications for Sr. Professional - Office Assistant. 

This is an hourly entry-level, part-time position. Scheduled hours for this position are limited to 19 hours or less per week.  Hourly employees are also limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18-month period.  

Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from higher-level classified, supervisory or management staff.
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time positions.  

Selection Process
The selection process will include a review of all applications with only the most qualified participating in an interview. Final candidate selection will include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and complete background check. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.  
 
Note: Eligible applicants will be contacted via phone or e-mail only if moving forward to the interview process. If you are not contacted, your application will remain active for a period of four (4) months.
Essential Functions
  • Provides a wide variety of clerical functions to support assigned work unit and its staff.
  • Formats, drafts, prepares and proofreads a wide variety of documents from drafts or verbal instruction.
  • Enters data from various sources into spreadsheets using a personal computer, including accounting, and related information; inputs corrections and updates; verifies data for accuracy and completeness; retrieves data as requested.
  • Takes messages or information or retrieves messages from a general voice mail box and forwards inquiry or information, or obtains information requested and responds.
  • Answers the telephone; provides a wide variety of assistance to the general public in a courteous manner. May backup receptionist for the work unit.  
  • Processes and follow-up on supplier profile requests.  
  • Operates a variety of office equipment including a multi-line telephone, personal computer, calculator, multi-function copiers, facsimile machine and document shredder; inputs and retrieves data and text.
  • Performs a variety of record keeping duties, including creating and maintaining filing systems; scans and indexes documents to convert to electronic storage; prepares files for scanning and off-site storage. May participate in records retention activities for work unit.
  • Operates a copier to make paper and scanned copies as requested; compiles documents into packets; may distribute copies as instructed.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all internal and external customer information accessed during the performance of assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Computer skills required
  • Friendly and customer service oriented
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work varied shifts and hours-Typically Mon – Thurs (morning or afternoon shifts)

  • Spanish/English bilingual desirable, but not required
