Job Description
Job Summary
The Boiler Service Technician is responsible for performing on-site installation support, preventative and corrective maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial boiler systems – both steam and hot water. The ideal candidate has extensive hands- on experience, strong diagnostic skills, and a commitment to safety and customer service.
Essential Responsibilities
● Perform start-ups, testing, and preventative maintenance on natural gas, fuel oil, and light oil-fired boiler systems.
● Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system malfunctions in boilers and related equipment.
● Conduct precise combustion testing and adjust fuel-to-air ratios to optimize boiler efficiency and performance.
● Read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, and CAD prints to ensure accurate installation, operation, and repair.
● Maintain accurate and detailed service records, including service reports, work orders, and safety checklists.
● Adhere to all safety regulations, industry standards (e.g., NFPA, CSD-1), and company policies at all times.
● Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients and team members to resolve issues.
● Identify opportunities for system upgrades or parts sales to improve efficiency and
system longevity for customers.
● Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency service requests, which may require overtime and occasional travel.
Required Qualifications
● High school diploma or GED equivalent.
● A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
● Strong understanding of gas and oil combustion, boiler controls, and electrical and mechanical systems is a plus.
● Proficiency in using various diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
● Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
● Strong mechanical aptitude.
● Hands-on experience as a boiler/combustion tech, general equipment mechanic, or maintenance tech.
● Experience with linkage-less control systems a plus (e.g., AutoFlame, Siemens, Fireye).
Physical Requirements
● Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools.
● Comfortable working in industrial environments and potentially uncomfortable conditions.
● Must be able to climb ladders, crawl, and work in tight spaces.
