What you can expect as a Commercial Lines Guidewire Product Owner:
- Product Vision & Strategy
- Partner with underwriting, operations, billing, claims, product, and IT leaders to execute a commercial lines roadmap that improves workflow efficiency, supports profitable growth, and enhances the experience for internal users, agents, and insureds.
- Translate Frontline’s business needs into actionable Guidewire features, with attention to policy transactions, underwriting rules, user workflows, document needs, billing lifecycle impacts and outcomes, claim submission workflows, claim lifecycle considerations, and downstream operational impacts.
- Continuously evaluate commercial lines market needs, carrier operations, and Guidewire platform capabilities to identify opportunities for improved product configuration, workflow automation, and lifecycle efficiency.
- Possesses in-depth proficiency in the assigned Guidewire center, with a comprehensive understanding of its integration points and communication flows across other Guidewire centers and portals, including how commercial policy transactions, billing events, and claim activities interact across the enterprise landscape.
- Proactively seeks opportunities to enhance usability of the assigned Guidewire center, ensuring alignment with business workflows and user needs.
- Demonstrates strong functional knowledge of commercial policy handling, including submission intake, quoting, underwriting referral support, policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, rewrites, and audit-related servicing activities.
- Backlog Management
- Maintain and prioritize a detailed, well-organized backlog to maximize business and customer value.
- Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria that accurately reflect how commercial lines teams work in practice, including exceptions, effective-dated transactions, servicing needs, and downstream impacts.
- Balance feature development, technical debt, defects and maintenance items to ensure product sustainability.
- Collaborate with fellow Product Owners, architects, and delivery teams to manage dependencies across PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, digital portals, document solutions, data platforms, and third-party integrations.
- Prioritize and refine backlog items that support commercial lines policy lifecycle capabilities, ensuring user stories and acceptance criteria account for transaction rules, effective dating, premium impact, regulatory requirements, and downstream effects to billing and claims.
- Agile Delivery
- Serve as the day-to-day product decision maker for Agile teams, providing practical guidance on commercial lines workflows, issue resolution, acceptance decisions, release readiness, and priority trade-offs in support of business operations.
- Participate in all Agile ceremonies— planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Make informed decisions on scope, priority, and trade-offs based on business value, operational risk, regulatory needs, and cross-center impacts to policy administration, billing, and claims processing.
- Guide delivery of commercial lines enhancements by validating end-to-end scenarios across PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and ClaimCenter, including premium changes from endorsements, cancellation and reinstatement processing, payment plan impacts, and claim-related policy validation needs.
- Support release planning, defect triage, and production issue prioritization for commercial lines capabilities, ensuring the most business-critical policy, billing, and claims impacts are understood and addressed quickly.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with underwriting, policy service, billing, claims, product, QA, digital, and data teams to ensure commercial lines capabilities are effective in production and aligned with carrier operating needs.
- Communicate product goals, release scope, dependency risks, and business outcomes effectively to technical teams, business partners, and senior stakeholders.
- Align cross-departmental priorities to ensure successful delivery and adoption of product features.
- Partner with underwriting, billing, claims, operations, compliance, and agency stakeholders to ensure commercial product changes are operationally sound, customer-centric, and aligned to servicing, collections, and loss-handling workflows.
- Build strong working relationships with business subject matter experts and operational leaders to validate that delivered functionality is practical, supportable, and consistent with how the organization wants to run commercial lines business.
- Support commercial product model evolution by partnering with subject matter experts on coverages, class codes, forms, rating, underwriting rules, and transaction design to ensure scalable and supportable Guidewire solutions.
- Data-Driven Decision Making
- Define and monitor assigned KPIs to measure product success and user satisfaction.
- Use analytics, experimentation, and user insights to guide feature prioritization and optimization.
- Conduct post-launch reviews to assess impact and identify areas for improvement.
- Use production metrics, service feedback, defect trends, and operational insights to identify opportunities to improve turnaround time, transaction quality, billing accuracy, workflow usability, and overall commercial lifecycle efficiency.
What we are looking for as a Commercial Lines Guidewire Product Owner:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or equivalent industry experienceof4-6yearsas a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or in a related Agile role.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-relevant language.
- Ability to do research and work with subject matter experts and senior executive management.
- Insurance experience, preferably in commercial Property and Casualty insurance, with practical knowledge of carrier operations and the day-to-day needs of underwriting, policy service, billing, and claims teams.
- Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance processes, including commercial policy lifecycle transactions, policy servicing, premium audits, direct bill and agency bill concepts, collections, commissions, and claim lifecycle fundamentals from first notice of loss through resolution.
- Experience with the Guidewire suite of products, with preference for practical knowledge of PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and ClaimCenter in commercial lines implementations or support models.
- Experience translating commercial lines business requirements into Guidewire-ready stories, acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and release decisions, with preference for knowledge of effective-dated transactions, underwriting rules, billing impacts, claim touchpoints, and operational workflow design.
- Experience withsoftware developmentprocesses.
Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner® (A-CSPO®) from Scrum Alliance or equivalent at a minimum.
