Purpose of the Role

The Senior Field Engineer – Mechanical at Worley provides advanced construction site engineering expertise and leadership during the execution phase of projects. This role serves as a recognized technical specialist responsible for interpreting designs, resolving complex field issues, and ensuring that mechanical construction activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved specifications. The Senior Field Engineer acts as a key interface between engineering, construction, quality, and project management teams, supporting Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality project outcomes while mentoring junior personnel and driving continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level mechanical engineering support and technical leadership during project construction phases.
  • Interpret and evaluate engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, and vendor documentation to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, quality, procurement, and commissioning teams to facilitate efficient project execution and resolution of technical issues.
  • Review site conditions and independently recommend design modifications or field changes necessary to accommodate constructability requirements while maintaining design intent.
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical challenges associated with mechanical systems, equipment installation, piping interfaces, and field execution activities.
  • Oversee mechanical construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and project procedures.
  • Provide technical direction to field engineers, craft supervision, and contractors regarding mechanical installation methodologies and best practices.
  • Perform inspections and verify the installation of mechanical equipment, piping systems, structural supports, and associated components for compliance with quality requirements.
  • Review and approve field change requests, redlines, turnover documentation, and as-built drawings.
  • Participate in walkdowns, punch list development, mechanical completion activities, and turnover to commissioning teams.
  • Support planning and execution of hydrostatic testing, flushing, alignment checks, torque verification, equipment setting, and preservation activities.
  • Monitor construction progress and productivity, identifying schedule risks and recommending corrective actions to maintain project milestones.
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings, providing updates on mechanical work progress, field issues, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental requirements, industry codes, and company procedures.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities, including inspections, nonconformance resolution, and corrective action implementation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records including progress reports, field sketches, RFIs, technical queries, and construction documentation.
  • Evaluate potential risks impacting cost, schedule, quality, and constructability, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives related to construction execution, work processes, and lessons learned.
  • Mentor and develop junior field engineers and provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Act as the mechanical discipline lead in the field and serve as a recognized technical authority for complex construction activities.

Qualifications / Skillset

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, or a relevant trade qualification combined with extensive industry experience and specialized training.
  • Significant experience in field engineering or construction engineering within industrial, energy, LNG, petrochemical, refining, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical equipment installation, piping systems, rotating equipment, static equipment, and construction methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME, API, ASTM, ANSI, and project-specific requirements.
  • Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, vendor documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Experience supporting hydrotesting, flushing, mechanical completion, turnover, and commissioning activities.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management processes, inspection requirements, and construction best practices.
  • Ability to independently analyze and resolve complex technical issues while considering safety, cost, schedule, environmental, and operational impacts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Working knowledge of project controls, construction sequencing, and schedule integration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with engineering and construction management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with experience mentoring junior personnel and coordinating field activities across multiple disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or eligibility preferred.
  • Experience on large EPC, LNG, petrochemical, refinery, or major industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), Mechanical Completion, and Commissioning processes.
  • Previous experience serving as a lead or senior field engineer responsible for multidisciplinary coordination and execution oversight.
