JOB DESCRIPTION

Alston & Bird is conducting a search for a Senior Licensing Compliance Specialist to assist Firm attorneys in the Financial Services group. The core focus of any candidate who fills this position is to support the Firm’s Financial Services clients by drafting and submitting applications, supplemental documentation, reports, renewals, and amendments for licenses (including those related to money transmission), mortgage lending, consumer lending servicing and debt collection, tracking project status information, interacting with clients and regulators as needed to obtain and submit relevant information, managing change-in-control transactions, and handling all aspects of licensing project management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Reviewing and drafting license applications, supplemental documentation, reports, renewals, and amendments

  • Tracking project status information related to requests to client and from state and federal regulators

  • Monitoring industry developments that relate to client issues

  • Drafting brief, same-day, client-ready summaries of recent developments

  • Assisting with filings and electronic submissions and update records within internal licensing database

  • Monitoring, reviewing and summarizing new compliance and enforcement initiatives

  • Assisting the team in developing client advisories on new and emerging issues

  • Reviewing client documents for compliance assessment and investigation purposes

  • Reviewing and synthesizing information stemming from recent industry trends

  • Assisting with electronic filings (overtime may be necessary on occasion to compete filings)

  • Assisting with compilation of complex responses, including reviewing and inputting edits from various authors (client or internal) into a central, controlled document

  • Maintaining client filing calendars

  • Familiarity with the regulatory process, comment periods, and agency jurisdiction and organizational charts

  • Experience with Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS)

  • Experience with state-specific license management platforms, such as Florida’s REAL system

  • Manage and track client billable hours

SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Must have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the practice group, with partners and associates, and with clients

  • Strong writing and proofreading skills with a thorough command of the English language to include excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation

  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to master applications that are specific to Alston & Bird

  • Have the ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints

  • Have great attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex workflows

  • Must be able to work well at the direction of multiple attorneys or independently while handling complex situations

  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills, along with an enthusiastic team player attitude and a strong work ethic


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience is required

  • 2+ years of compliance, financial services, and/or licensing experience

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $185,000 and represents the Firm's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at this time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, and locations. This range is specific to our Washington, D.C. office and may not be applicable to other locations.
