PPL is seeking a Product Director – Safety & Work Management Technology to lead the strategy, governance, and delivery of a portfolio of digital products that enable safe, reliable, and efficient operations across a regulated electric and gas utility environment.
This role is accountable for defining and driving technology product strategy, aligning investments to business priorities, and delivering measurable outcomes through a portfolio of products, projects, and programs. The Product Director will operate at the intersection of business and technology, ensuring strong alignment to enterprise strategy while maintaining execution accountability across the portfolio.
The ideal candidate brings strong product leadership, portfolio governance, and stakeholder alignment experience, with deep understanding of Safety, Work Management, Field Operations, and operational risk environments. This leader will drive end-to-end ownership of product performance, user experience, and value realization while fostering a high-performing product organization.
Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Portfolio Leadership:
- Define and lead the product strategy for Safety and Work Management capabilities, aligning to enterprise priorities, regulatory requirements, and operational needs.
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle (Explore, Exploit, Maintain, Retire) to maximize business value and optimize investment decisions.
- Identify and deliver strategic outcomes, success measures, and value realization metrics across the portfolio.
- Own and continuously improve end-to-end user journeys and experiences, ensuring seamless integration across field, work execution, and safety capabilities.
- Identify emerging business needs, regulatory impacts, and industry trends to inform forward-looking strategy.
Portfolio Governance & Investment Management:
- Provide overall portfolio governance and oversight, ensuring transparency, alignment, and disciplined execution.
- Initiate, review, and prioritize all new investment requests and ensure alignment with enterprise strategy and funding priorities.
- Track and optimize portfolio investments, ensuring accountability for outcomes, cost efficiency, and value delivery.
- Lead regular portfolio reviews with stakeholders to assess performance, adjust priorities, and refine strategy and investments.
- Manage cross-portfolio dependencies, risks, and conflicts to ensure coordinated delivery and optimized outcomes.
Stakeholder Engagement & Business Alignment:
- Engage with business and technology stakeholders to understand key operational challenges, safety priorities, and work management opportunities.
- Align stakeholders around highest-value initiatives, securing funding and governance approval.
- Partner with Technology, Design, and Analytics leaders to identify high-value digital initiatives and transformation opportunities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders across Safety, Field Operations, Work Management, and Compliance.
Delivery & Execution Accountability:
- Maintain accountability for successful delivery of products, projects, and programs within the portfolio, ensuring outcomes meet business expectations.
- Ensure all initiatives are aligned to enterprise objectives, regulatory requirements, and operational priorities.
- Establish clear delivery governance, prioritization, and execution discipline across the portfolio.
- Drive continuous improvement in delivery performance, quality, and predictability.
Team Leadership & Product Operating Model:
- Build, develop, and support high-performing portfolio product teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
- Lead the discovery of strategic opportunities at the portfolio level.
- Promote and champion a product-centered operating model, emphasizing co-creation, business ownership, and value delivery.
- Provide leadership across cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment between product, delivery, and business stakeholders.
Digital Capability & Business Value Expansion:
- Build and leverage deep business domain expertise in Safety and Work Management to identify opportunities to enhance digital capabilities.
- Drive initiatives that improve operational safety outcomes, workforce productivity, compliance, and field execution effectiveness.
- Enable cross-portfolio capabilities that support integrated planning, scheduling, execution, and safety management.
Regulatory & Industry Engagement:
- Serve as a subject matter expert in relevant regulatory and policy discussions, working groups, or proceedings.
- Ensure portfolio alignment with industry regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in product leadership, portfolio management, or technology-enabled business transformation.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing cross-functional teams and complex portfolios.
- Demonstrated experience leading product strategy and delivery in operational or regulated environments.
- Strong experience in portfolio governance, investment planning, and value realization.
- Experience operating within Safety, Work Management, Field Operations, or asset-intensive industries.
- Strong communication skills with ability to engage and influence senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in electric and gas utility or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with field operations, work planning and scheduling, mobility, inspections, and compliance processes.
- Experience leading enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of product operating models and portfolio-based funding approaches.
