SALARY PLACEMENT: Stipend
POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
Assist in the preparation, packaging, serving, and cleanup of breakfast, lunch, and snack meals for students participating in the Lane Education Service District Migrant Education Summer Program. Support safe food handling practices while helping create a welcoming, respectful, and positive environment for students and families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and assemble breakfast, lunch, and snack items according to established menus and procedures.
- Portion, package, and distribute food items for student meal service.
- Serve meals to students in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate meal counts and assist with required food service records and documentation.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements.
- Operate standard kitchen and food service equipment safely and appropriately.
- Wash dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and food preparation areas.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen, serving, dining, and storage areas.
- Receive, organize, and store food and supplies.
- Monitor inventory and notify supervisor when supplies need replenishment.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of meal service areas.
- Work cooperatively with Migrant Education staff, summer program personnel, students, and families.
- Follow Lane ESD policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Migrant Education Summer Program.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous food service experience preferred but not required.
- Possess a current Oregon Food Handler Card prior to the start of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and food service procedures.
- Basic food preparation, serving, and kitchen operation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform duties with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to organize tasks, prioritize work, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to interact professionally and work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires regular standing and walking throughout the workday. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with food preparation and service activities. The employee may be required to lift and carry food products, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed indoors in kitchen, cafeteria, and food service environments. The employee may be exposed to heat, cold, steam, cleaning products, and kitchen equipment commonly associated with food preparation and service.

- Utilize appropriate equipment and software as established for agency use as well as other equipment and software appropriate to the assignment.

- Follow all District work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority.
- Perform program responsibilities in accordance with statutes, administrative rules, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a temporary position established solely for the duration of the Migrant Education Summer Program and does not create an expectation of continued employment beyond the designated assignment period.
