Position Summary:
This position will be part of the xEV Regional Production Engineering (PE) group for Hybrid and Electric Vehicle products and will be responsible for activities and support for Electric Motor programs. The Motor Production Engineer will establish specifications, equipment, processes, quotations, and other documentation for programs related to electric motor products and will oversee the development, acquisition, and installation of new manufacturing equipment.
As part of this role, the Motor Production Engineer ensures that new production equipment produces parts at world-class uptime and reliability levels and that the parts meet customer and company specifications. The Motor Production Engineer also ensures that projects are implemented following established schedules and completed on time and that the equipment is verified and qualified for mass production utilization.
This position is part of a team-based structure and interacts with multiple other roles, including process engineering, design engineering, quality assurance, building and equipment maintenance, production management, and others. Also, this role will identify synergy potential across programs and establish and apply best practices to drive cost effective solutions utilizing lessons learned and continuous improvement methods.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Broad engineering skills, including knowledge of mechanical design, machine design, automation, control systems, robotics, pneumatics, optical inspection, and manufacturing processes
- Computer literacy with both personal computers and manufacturing systems, including knowledge of standard office software (MS Office) and programming experience
- Proven ability to lead and mentor other engineers and technicians
- Ability to make quick, accurate, data-driven decisions and utilize excellent structured problem-solving skills
- Well organized, attention to detail, and able to handle multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction
- Willingness to support the corporate culture with an absolute focus on ethics and fairness
Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Work experience within the automotive industry, with emphasis on electro-mechanical devices and/or electric motor production
- Work experience with assembly and complex manufacturing processes
- Work experience at a machine builder/system integrator
- Work experience with manufacturing process planning, writing equipment specifications, procuring capital equipment, and dealing with and managing outside equipment manufacturers
- Knowledge of relevant quality systems, i.e. IATF 16949, and standard automotive engineering and manufacturing documentation, including DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, and standard work instructions
- Excellent understanding of industrial safety systems
- Certification in structured problem-solving methods, i.e. Six Sigma
- Knowledge of test systems and test methods related to product end-of-line testing
- Knowledge of Electric Vehicle (EV) components and traction motor manufacturing processes
- Experience leading cross-functional projects and implementing new manufacturing lines or processes
- Japanese language skills
Education: 4-year university degree in electrical engineering, but degrees in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or related technical fields may also be accepted if they are combined with relevant work experience.
Experience: Minimum of 3 - 5 years of applicable experience

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Travel: Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required and may include short-term assignments in a foreign country.
