General Summary:
The Director, Finance Transformation is responsible for leading the execution, delivery, and adoption of large-scale Finance transformation initiatives with the goal of achieving a superior experience for Finance professionals and business partners while ensuring operational effectiveness.The role will focus on the execution and delivery of large-scale transformation initiatives, accountable for translating product strategy into actionable plans and delivered outcomes, while partnering on the design and delivery of smaller scale features.
This person will work closely with Finance product owners, financial reporting and accounting stakeholders, technology teams, dedicated change resources, and Finance subject matter experts to drive process and technology transformation across reporting and accounting capabilities.
The role requires the ability to translate complex Finance requirements into executable solutions, remove delivery barriers, and ensure successful implementation and adoption of reporting and accounting process improvements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Play a key leadership role in technology and process assessment of an assigned Finance functional area and present recommendations on initiatives, product design and delivery to leaders and Finance product owners.
- Provide delivery-focused input into feasibility, sequencing, and execution considerations during product discovery and design to ensure that solutions align with company strategy and will have a significant impact on Finance’s value delivery, partnership engagement and contribution to Enterprise Transformation goals.
- Create business plans for assigned projects including the development of complex financial cost benefit modeling, and track performance against those plans through delivery and post-implementation.
- Research, analyze and synthesize significant amounts of information to quantify and identify business opportunities and issues
- Leverage broad Finance, operational and transformation expertise to ensure solutions are executable, scalable, and aligned to delivery objectives while supporting business goals and delivery efficiency gains to reduce costs to Finance areas while improving the experience for our customers.
- Simplify and reimagine processes to create transformational experiences through digital assets
- Lead change management, operational readiness, and business adoption efforts with clear accountability for adoption and business readiness at go-live, while acting as a champion of change leading organizations through digital transformations.
- Independently conduct complex quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform delivery decisions, risk mitigation, and execution planning.
- Constantly operate with a value delivery and partner centric mindset and leverage the ability to analyze the most important requirements of a solution that can help drive business solutions and improve the employee and partner experience.
- Own and lead end-to-end delivery of large transformation initiatives with a focus on ensuring timely delivery, quality execution, active management of risks and dependencies, and achievement of intended business outcomes.
- Leverage data and reporting to track delivery progress, communicate status, and ensure transparency of outcomes to Finance leaders, while proactively identifying risks and taking corrective action to ensure successful execution.
- Serve as a transformational leader by mentoring lower-level staff and at times may directly manage a small team of professionals.
- Establish strong, effective and collaborative partnerships with key business area leaders, project managers and subject matter experts to ensure alignment, execution discipline, and successful delivery outcomes.
- Ensure clear ownership of deliverables across initiatives, eliminating ambiguity in roles, accountability, and execution
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Finance subject matter experts, Finance change resources, and IT professionals, while managing across initiative and technical dependencies to deliver value.
- Maintain strong knowledge of emerging external trends in digital technology solutions.
- Define and track success metrics for initiatives, ensuring delivery of measurable business value and intended outcomes.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate delivery risks, dependencies, and trade-offs across initiatives and other workstreams.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant business experience.
- Finance or actuarial professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA, CFA, FSA) preferred
- 8+ years of experience delivering value through problem solving, analytics, and/or digital assets, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proven understanding of Finance business processes and behaviors & expectations to invest in technology
- Drive Finance Transformation through partner engagement, user acceptance, and change management.
- Demonstrated accountability for end-to-end delivery of complex initiatives, including planning, execution, and outcome realization.
- Experience in leading and building a change culture with stakeholder management, operational readiness & buy-in with strong communication
- Ability to translate strategy into execution and deliver outcomes in complex environments
- Proven leadership ability with ability to influence, coach and develop others.
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking ability with strong understanding of Agile methods
- Experience building and presenting complex cost benefit analysis to obtain buy-in from senior leaders for company investment, and tracking value realization post-delivery.
- Experience delivering data and/or digital based solutions that have a direct impact on customer, employee, and partner experience.
- Strong skills in conducting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research and turning the results into actional recommendations.
- Proven results focusing on quality delivery and delighting customers; holds self to high standards of delivery
- Collaborative team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
