Job Description
About 1X
We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team
The Simulation team enables faster, smarter engineering decisions by building accurate digital representations of NEO and its subsystems. We develop the models and tools that allow teams to predict performance, understand failure modes, and optimize designs long before hardware is built.
Working closely with mechanical, controls, electrical, and systems engineers, the team plays a critical role in reducing development risk, accelerating iteration cycles, and ensuring our robots are reliable, efficient, and production-ready.
Your Charter
Develop and own the simulation capabilities that guide critical engineering decisions across NEO's development. Your work will provide the insight needed to optimize performance, validate designs, reduce risk, and improve reliability across actuators, structures, electronics, and system-level architectures.
As a Simulation Engineer, you'll help transform complex physical systems into predictive engineering models that enable faster development and better products.
Key Outcomes
Deliver validated thermal, structural, and multi-body dynamics models that accurately predict real-world system performance
Improve simulation fidelity through rigorous test correlation and continuous model refinement
Enable faster and more informed engineering decisions through design studies, tradeoff analyses, and sensitivity investigations
Develop scalable simulation workflows, automation tools, and best practices that increase engineering efficiency across teams
Support major product milestones by identifying design risks early and providing actionable recommendations backed by simulation data
Key Competencies
Deep understanding of physics-based modeling, including thermal, structural, and dynamic systems
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate ambiguous engineering challenges into robust simulation frameworks
Experience validating models against real-world test data and improving predictive accuracy
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly
Ownership mentality with a bias toward execution, continuous improvement, and engineering rigor
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of professional experience in thermal, structural, dynamics, or multiphysics simulation
Proficiency with industry-standard simulation tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, MSC Adams, or equivalent
Strong understanding of heat transfer, structural mechanics, materials, and system dynamics
Experience developing and validating simulation models using experimental test data
Preferred Skills
Experience modeling robotic, electromechanical, or actuator-driven systems
Experience performing fatigue, vibration, durability, or reliability analyses
Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages for workflow automation and post-processing
Experience building simulation infrastructure, templates, or engineering best practices
Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design-for-production considerations
What does a successful 1X Team Member look like?
Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
