DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
Provides services to ensure a safe and secure environment for all patients, staff and visitors to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Health Center campus.
SUMMARY:
- Monitor conditions and activities while patrolling the grounds, parking lots and buildings. Ensure that relevant Health Center policies are followed and violations are reported.
- Anticipate, recognize and appraise security/safety risks and hazards and initiate action to reduce or remove them.
- Respond appropriately to a variety of potential and/or real emergencies, alarms and extraordinary events, e.g. patient standby/restraints, person with weapon, report to fire and building alarms, medical emergencies, etc.
- Representative of the health center, providing assistance and guidance to all patients, staff and visitors to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital campus.
- Responds to complaints generated by patients, staff and visitors, e.g. lost or larcened property, suspicious activity, improper access, etc.
- Responds to general assist calls generated by patients, staff and visitors, e.g. locking/unlocking doors, vehicle unlocks and jumpstarts, wheelchair assists, etc.
- Completes a daily activity report documenting non-routine activities for referral to the appropriate person.
- Completes a written report following a complaint and/or investigation of unusual activity, documenting procedures taken and appropriate follow through.
- Maintains all security equipment in working condition.
- Assists the Reception staff, upon need or request by Team Leader, Security.
- Issues parking permits upon request.
- Provides after-hour support to Escort Service personnel when transporting deceased persons to the morgue.
- Ensures that parking lot gates and coin machines are functioning properly. Issues citations for improper parking, handicap and fire lane violations.
- Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Requires high school diploma or equivalent
Experience: 6 to 12 months related experience
