Job Summary
Reporting and accountable to the Site Medical Director (SMD), the Medical Lead - Surgical Assistant is responsible for coordinating the functions and the activities of the Surgical Assistants at Burnaby Hospital.
Key Areas of involvement include, but not limited to
Effective Delivery of Clinical Services:
- Prepares monthly call roster of Surgical Assistants for the site (Endeavours to ensure that services of the Surgical Assistants are delivered effectively within the parameters of the site service delivery plans).
- Resolves conflict between Surgical Assistants and other staff in the Operating Room.
Quality and Utilization Monitoring/Improvement:
- Encourages Surgical Assistants at Burnaby Hospital to be engaged in multidisciplinary quality improvement and utilization management of activities within the facility.
- Provides orientation to assistants and monitors assistants’ clinical performance through ongoing feedback from surgeons and nurses.
- Investigates complaints regarding care provided by Surgical Assistants within the Facility, under the direction of the Local Department Head, Surgery and report those findings to the LDH and the Regional Medical Director | Regional Department Head - Surgery.
Eligibility: Member of the Active Staff.
Term of appointment: Three years
Compensation: $10,000 per annum, plus GST (if applicable) – payable in twelve installments per year.
Closing date: June 25th, 2026 (eligible applicant may be hired before that; or could be extended).
