Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW:

Manages all field sales activities across the assigned Puerto Rico territory. Conducts face to face contact with every account on a timely and periodic basis. Focuses on growing the account base by acquiring and onboarding new customers, and by selling deeper and wider into existing accounts. The role concentrates on capturing new business (80 percent) and servicing existing business (20 percent). Actual time distribution will vary based on company needs and territory characteristics including market share, customer mix, and account consolidation. Travel is island wide across municipios, with periodic continental US travel for training, conventions, and team meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and manages the assigned Puerto Rico territory with market share growth as the primary objective. Market share growth is achieved primarily through cultivation and capture of new accounts across hospitals, IPAs, grupos médicos, Centros 330 (FQHCs), urgent care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, and private practices.
  • Responds to customer concerns in a timely fashion. Takes appropriate actions to ensure customer issues and opportunities are communicated to the relevant Henry Schein Medical, Equipment, and Operations teams.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements strategies that use all company programs, tools, resources, and initiatives to grow share within the Puerto Rico market.
  • Directs sales activities within the territory by coordinating with all team selling assets including the Puerto Rico Inside Sales team, Equipment Specialists, Digital Workflow Advisor, Field Service technicians, and corporate support functions. Selling effort must remain tightly coordinated to meet the complex needs of a rapidly changing healthcare environment in Puerto Rico.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the Puerto Rico healthcare landscape, including ASES Vital, Medicare Advantage carriers (Triple S Advantage, MMM, First Medical, MCS, Humana, Plan de Salud Menonita), IPA contracts, hospital systems, and government programs that affect provider purchasing patterns.
  • Attends medical conventions, seminars, and continuing education events held in Puerto Rico and the continental US as directed, and regional medical societies. Participates in all training programs as instructed by the Regional Sales Manager, Director, or VP of US Specialty Distribution Group.
  • Cooperates with the Puerto Rico Field Sales, Inside Sales, Equipment, and Field Service teams in the execution of company programs and corporate initiatives.
  • Maintains a high level of integrity and constantly focus on continuing education programs to enhance sales and business acumen and subsequent sales performance.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.

In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures including WorldWide Business Standards.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, written and verbal. Capable of conducting full sales calls, in services, training sessions, and written customer correspondence in either language.
  • Working knowledge of the Puerto Rico healthcare market including hospitals, IPAs, grupos médicos, Centros 330, private practices, and the payer environment.
  • Working knowledge of clinical laboratory workflows and lab consumables is a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM platforms.
  • Strong selling, communication, presentation, customer service, negotiation, and territory planning skills.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

Two or more years of healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, or related B2B sales experience preferred. Direct experience selling into Puerto Rico medical accounts is a strong plus.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred. Degree or specialization in medical laboratory science or laboratory technology also preferred.

Other:

Valid Puerto Rico driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for daily territory travel.
