Job Description
Purpose:
Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to individuals with gastrointestinal conditions in an acute ward setting. Support the multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients with a range of gastroenterological conditions.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
- Monitor and record vital signs, fluid balance, and nutritional status, escalating concerns as appropriate.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures (e.g., endoscopy, colonoscopy) and assist during procedures as required.
- Educate patients and families about their conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in line with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with doctors, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Participate in ward meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, students, and healthcare assistants as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in acute care; gastroenterology experience preferred but not essential.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
Additional Information:
- Rotational shifts, including nights and weekends, may be required.
