Moraga Post Acute is seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our rehabilitation team on a PRN basis. Position Overview
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides direct resident care and treatment services designed to improve functional performance and quality of life. The COTA plays an essential role in supporting rehabilitation goals, promoting resident independence, and contributing to positive clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Treatment
Provide occupational therapy treatments as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
Assist residents in achieving individualized therapy goals and improving performance in activities of daily living (ADLs).
Clinical Documentation
Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in accordance with facility policies, regulatory requirements, and third-party payer guidelines.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Communicate regularly with the supervising Occupational Therapist regarding resident progress, treatment plans, goals, and discharge recommendations.
Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team.
Resident & Family Education
Educate residents, caregivers, and family members on treatment objectives, home exercise programs, adaptive techniques, safety precautions, and fall prevention strategies.
Equipment & Adaptive Device Recommendations
Assist with identifying and recommending appropriate adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment (DME) to support resident independence, including:
Assistive devices
Splints and orthotics
Elevated toilet seats
Grab bars
Adaptive equipment for daily living activities
Team Participation
Participate in resident care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and interdisciplinary team discussions as needed.
Support quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives within the rehabilitation department.
Staff Education & Training
Assist in training Restorative Aides and provide educational in-services to facility staff as requested.
Safety & Compliance
Maintain a safe treatment environment by adhering to infection control procedures, safety standards, and equipment maintenance protocols.
Report equipment concerns promptly to ensure safe and effective operation.
Professional Standards
Maintain strict confidentiality of resident and company information.
Foster positive and professional relationships with residents, families, coworkers, and healthcare partners.
Qualifications
Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) certification and state licensure as required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
