Director, IT Enterprise Delivery and Portfolio
Job Description
Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Every member of our Madrigal team is connected by our shared purpose: leading the fight against MASH.
Madrigal’s medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c).
Our success is driven by our people. We are building a dynamic, inclusive, and high-performing culture that values scientific excellence, operational rigor, and collaboration. To support our continued growth, we are strengthening our workforce strategy to ensure we have the right talent, at the right time, in the right way.
The Director, IT Enterprise Delivery & Portfolio will lead Madrigal IT’s end-to-end delivery discipline across the project portfolio, ensuring we have a single, trusted view of what is happening, what is at risk, and what decisions are needed. This role will own the portfolio operating rhythm and governance mechanisms that bring structure to demand intake, prioritization, sequencing, dependency management, and escalation—so leaders can make timely, informed tradeoffs and avoid surprises.
Reporting to the Sr. Director, IT Strategy & Operations, this leader will help operationalize “how we run IT” by strengthening execution quality, predictability, and accountability across programs and projects, while keeping the organization focused on the highest-value work. The goal is to accelerate delivery of strategic outcomes by improving transparency, standardizing ways of working, and proactively removing barriers—so IT can scale with the business without increasing noise, risk, or decision latency.
Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Leadership
- Accountable for the end-to-end intake, prioritization, and sequencing process for the IT portfolio, ensuring timely, high-quality decisions.
- Run portfolio governance forums and drive decision discipline, escalation, and follow-through
- Maintain portfolio health visibility across milestones, risks, dependencies, and outcomes
- Drive on-time, on-budget delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives
- Define, track and continuously improve portfolio-level KPIs
- Delivery & Execution Discipline
- Establish consistent delivery standards for planning, RAID, change control, and status integrity
- Drive cross-functional dependency management and unblock delivery across domains and vendors
- Enforce delivery discipline across the portfolio
- Improve predictability through stage-appropriate checkpoints and executive-ready reporting
- Capture lessons learned and continuously strengthen “how Madrigal delivers”
- Strategic Planning & Roadmapping
- Partner with IT and business leaders to ensure delivery plans reflect enterprise commitments
- Build a single, executive-ready narrative that connects delivery progress, risk, and capacity to enterprise priorities and outcomes
- Support quarterly recalibration based on performance, capacity, and shifting priorities
- Delivery Constraints & Capacity Management
- Maintain a forward-looking view of delivery capacity and constraints across teams and partners (skills, bandwidth, vendor throughput).
- Surface delivery restraints early (dependencies, environment readiness, data/integration gaps, compliance gates, funding timing) with clear options and tradeoffs.
- Drive timely escalation and decision-making to protect critical milestones; recommend re-sequencing, de-scoping, or resourcing actions as needed.
- Reduce chronic overload by enforcing prioritization discipline and minimizing fragmented, low-value work.
- Delivery Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of project/program managers; set expectations, coach execution quality, and ensure consistent standards.
- Directly manage select high-priority initiatives as the project/program manager (hands-on ownership from plan through delivery).
- Create a strong PM community of practice (templates, tooling, training, lessons learned) that raises delivery maturity over time.
- Ensure contractors and external PM resources operate within Madrigal’s governance, reporting, and delivery norms.
- Other duties as assigned
Required & Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- Advanced degree (MBA or related) preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant IT experience across a broad technology landscape including applications, PMO, data, and AI.
- Experience in biotech/pharma or other regulated industries strongly preferred.
- Track record leading cross-functional portfolios, improving SLAs/OLAs, and maturing ITIL processes.
- Hands-on experience with IT financial management, vendor/SOW oversight, and contract negotiations.
- Proven ability to prepare executive materials and drive decisions with data and clear tradeoffs.
