Summary/Objective 

The Vice President of Mission is responsible for leading efforts related to organizational ministry, mission, and culture. This position will oversee all ministry services and programming, including a large contingency of Constituent Members and Ministers affiliated with VOA. Additionally, this position will oversee all mission and culture initiatives that drive employee engagement and retention.

Essential Functions

  • Articulate and demonstrate a commitment to Jesus Christ and the Cardinal Doctrines of VOA.
  • Define and operationalize the organization-wide mission strategy to align with growth priorities, departmental needs, and community impact.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain all ministry programming and events that provide spiritual care for staff, volunteers, and clients.  
  • Oversee the onboarding, training, and engagement of the Mission Team, the Ministry Advisory Team, Constituent Members, and Ministers.
  • Collaborate with operational and administrative leaders to ensure the integration and prioritization of ministry for clients and staff.
  • Represent the organization with community and church partners to promote organizational efforts and ministry impact while building new partnerships.
  • Partner with VOA, Inc. to enroll ministry members, commission and ordain ministers, and submit ministry updates, data, and grant requests as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Department to support fundraising efforts through grant requests and donor appeals.
  • Facilitate ministry services and provide direct pastoral care to patients and staff as needed.
  • Develop and implement employee initiatives that drive engagement through a connection to mission and culture.
  • Provide oversight and insight to organizational communication, resources, employee platforms, and events.
  • Oversee employee orientation, engagement, and satisfaction efforts through surveys and programming.
  • Facilitate employee engagement opportunities both virtually and in person.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs tied to mission impact on employees, clients, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with HR to resolve cultural issues, navigate team dynamics, and recognize employee achievements.
  • Oversee the organization's Culture Committee to drive engagement initiatives.
  • Participate with employee development efforts through coaching, workshops, group facilitation, and resources that support mission, culture, and ministry.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Some travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or three years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Three years of experience serving in Christian ministry.
  • Will become commissioned as a Volunteers of America minister within the first eligible year of employment.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Five years of experience serving in Christian ministry.
