Job Summary:

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting day-to-day HR operations at a unionized and non-unionized manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with employment laws, HR policies, and collective bargaining agreements (CBA), where applicable. This role serves as a trusted HR partner to employees and supervisors, assisting with recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, and HR compliance.  This role will serve as Generalist for both locations, Elkhart and North Liberty.

 

What you will be doing

 

Recruitment & Onboarding
• Support full-cycle recruiting, including job postings, screening, interview coordination, and candidate selection.
• Coordinate onboarding, ensuring completion of documentation, orientation, and required training.

Benefits & Payroll Support
• Administer benefits programs and assist employees with enrollment and inquiries.
• Support payroll accuracy, including attendance, wage adjustments, shift differentials, and union pay structures.

Compliance & Records
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and maintain accurate, confidential employee records.
• Support audits, reporting, and HR policy reviews.

Performance & Development
• Support performance management, including appraisals, goal setting, and development plans.
• Coordinate training and development initiatives.

HR Policies & Employee Relations
• Support HR policy implementation and provide guidance to managers and employees.
• Address employee relations matters and promote a positive work environment.

Engagement & Retention
• Support engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and exit interview processes.

HR Systems & Reporting
• Maintain HR systems and generate reports to support workforce insights and decision-making.

Labor Support (Union Locations)
• Support labor relations and CBA compliance.
• Lead maintenance planning and CMMS activities, including scheduling, job planning, and execution tracking.
• Coordinate with operations, contractors, and teams to ensure safe, efficient maintenance and shutdown execution.
• Lead planning meetings and reinforce health and safety standards.

What will make you successful?

Required Education/Experience:

  • 3 + years HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or unionized environment, where applicable.
  • SHRM-CP, or PHR, Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP) or other union/labor relations certifications a plus.
  • English required; additional language skills are a plus.
  • Travel – Less than 25%.

 

 

 

 

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience. 
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, labor laws (FMLA, OSHA, FLSA, ADA, NLRA), and union contracts, if applicable. 
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll systems (e.g., SuccessFactors, UKG, UltiPro), and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to interpret CBAs and assist in labor relations efforts, if applicable.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to resolve workplace conflicts.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment, managing multiple priorities.
