The Company
Sadie’s restaurant and garden bar in New York City’s Seaport, is bringing New American comfort food, an indoor-outdoor bar experience, and year-round programming to one of Lower Manhattan’s most vibrant waterfront neighborhoods.
About The Role:
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Utility Houseperson/Porter is responsible for the setup, breakdown, moving furniture and equipment, and overall upkeep of Sadie’s, Sadie’s Garden Bar and all storage areas, as well as assisting with receiving, inspecting and distributing incoming deliveries. Your attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a correctly set-up, well-stocked and orderly environment contributes to the overall cleanliness and functionality of the restaurant.
What You Will Do
· Execute restaurant and bar furniture setup, arrangement, and breakdown including supporting arrangement of chairs, linens, furniture, equipment, and any other need according to specifications
· Maintain polished, presentable and neat appearance at all times while exhibiting professional etiquette
· Set up restaurant and bar according to Floor Plan or requirements
· Address maintenance issues or hazard promptly and efficiently
· Perform routine inspections to ensure space is clean, safe, and presentable
· Move large heavy and fragile items/furniture for set-up of events and breakdown
· Set up tables, chairs, cocktail tables, high boys, satellite bars, easels, etc… as specified
· Break down after every event and store in appropriate areas
· Stock and organize all event items, collateral, rentals, etc
· Make necessary changes to the space throughout as needed and/or upon request
· Receive and unload deliveries from vendors and carriers.
· Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips.
· Inspect products for quality, quantity, damage, expiration dates, and temperature compliance where applicable.
· Maintain proper stock rotation practices (FIFO).
· Ensure all storage areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
· Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and forklifts (if certified).
· Assist with inventory counts, audits, and reconciliation activities.
· Monitor stock levels of cleaned and polished items and promptly replenish as needed to avoid shortages during peak hours.
· Follow all company policies regarding food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and security.
· Operate ethically to protect the assets and image of the company
About You:
· Prior experience in a set-up/maintenance role preferably in a high-volume setting and/or equivalent relevant experience
· Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently under pressure
· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, across all levels within the organization
· Be proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team cooperatively
· Able to take direction and work in an everchanging environment with multiple priorities
· Must have open availability including early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays.
· Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as per business needs
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift and carry items weighing 75 pounds on a regular basis.
· Must be able to safely push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250lbs
· Ability to stand for prolong periods of time.
· Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
· Climbing steps regularly.
Compensation range: $17 - $18
