Your role


In this role, you will act as the rundown producer for our news teams in Alberta while also hosting the Téléjournal Alberta. You will generate story ideas and produce program content in a variety of presentation formats.


You must be a creative team leader with strong editorial judgment and a clear vision for the future of news on Radio-Canada’s three platforms – digital, radio and TV. You are able to strike the right balance between delivering breaking news for digital and radio and providing greater context for television.


In addition to vetting reporters’ scripts, you will write and present content elements and continuity for your programs. You will work closely with other staff members per the guidelines developed by producers as well as senior content and operations managers. 


This role requires full-time on-site presence.


We are looking for a candidate with the following: 


Objective criteria:

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years’ experience involving work in TV broadcasting or a closely related industry, directly related to journalism or on-air hosting.
  • Strong reporting and editing skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Ability to be responsible and accountable for exercising budget authority.
  • Solid production skills, including the ability to produce a variety of program formats.
  • Highly developed technical skills and experience using a variety of audio and video equipment, including advanced knowledge of iNEWS, Dalet and Media Central software.
  • Ease with live reporting.
  • Comfort with new and emerging technologies, and a demonstrated ability to use the same to engage the audience. 
  • Solid grasp of political, social, economic and national issues that pertain to Alberta.
  • Understanding of the relationship between network and regional programming
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) essential.

Subjective criteria:

  • Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with the demonstrated ability to encourage creativity. 
  • Ability to work proactively and provide leadership by example in a journalistic unit composed of highly talented professionals.
  • Sound editorial judgment.
