Our Forensic practice investigates problems in the built environment and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, insurance carriers, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.
Your Role
As an Elevator & Vertical Transportation expert in our Forensics Practice, you’ll take on a leadership role where your vision, expertise, and strategic insight shape the firm’s most ambitious forensic projects and initiatives. You will be recognized as a thought leader in vertical transportation and charged with influencing firm-wide practices, innovation, and growth. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to major clients, mentor and inspire engineering teams, and contribute to business strategy and development across offices. This is a high-impact position for an elevator and vertical transportation expert ready to leave a lasting mark on the industry.
What You’ll Do
- Work directly with a wide variety of clients, including attorneys, property owners, contractors, and insurance professionals on a wide range of investigations which may involve field Investigations, property assessment and analysis, extent and scope of damage, cause of damage, building code analysis, construction defects, and professional standard of care.
- Serve as an expert witness in various scenarios, including depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Serve as the primary client partner and trusted advisor.
- Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams, fostering technical excellence, collaboration, and leadership growth across the firm.
- Drive business development and firm growth by leading proposals, pursuing new opportunities, and expanding Thornton Tomasetti’s influence in the market.
- Shape firm strategy through thought leadership, advising senior leadership on emerging trends, new markets, and opportunities to expand services.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 10-15+ years of progressive experience in elevator and vertical transportation engineering, repairs, consulting, or investigation.
- Recognized expertise and thought leadership in forensic engineering and vertical transportation, with the ability to influence firm-wide and industry practices.
- Ability to write reports that clearly express technical opinions and conclusions and support these conclusions/opinions with facts and sound technical principles.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, meet deadlines and travel to work sites.
- Ability to manage and assist in the development of a team of junior engineers.
- Ability to manage a forensics project from intake through deliverable.
- Ability and willingness to travel for short durations for certain assignments.
