ELECTRICAL/AUTOMATION TECHNICIAN

- Perform installation, configuration and troubleshooting of photo eyes, proximity switches, limit switches, PLC modules and all associated control wiring
- Provide troubleshooting expertise of analog and digital controls with 480V, 3 phase power distribution systems, motors, variable frequency drives, servo drives, and soft starts
- Maintain and troubleshoot position feedback devices encoders, load cells, etc.
- Programming and troubleshooting of DCS, PLC and HMI interfaces.
- Perform configuration and logic modifications to DCS and PLC control systems. Modifications will include programming in ladder and statement logic.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose configuration and implementation of integrated and stand-alone graphic human machine interfaces.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose specification of communication protocols, including Profibus, serial and industrial Ethernet.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues utilizing electrical schematics
- Diagnose and perform preventive maintenance on Laser Guided Vehicles, conveyors, and production equipment.
- Train Operators in performing minor maintenance tasks
- Hold self and others to high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE, etc.)
- Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate root cause
- Ensure work environment is clean and free from debris
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years demonstrated electrical experience and/or 2 years mechanical experience, and 2 years of related education (Associate’s Degree).
- Demonstrated experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), pneumatics, or hydraulic systems required
- Experienced in working with computerized maintenance system preferred
- Experience with troubleshooting and performing maintenance on packaging equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Internal candidates must have completed a minimum of Level 5 Qualification
SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
Thorough understanding of manufacturing safety procedures (lockout/tagout, confine spaces, personal protective equipment, etc.) preferred
PLC programming preferred
Ability to work on a variety of machines (Perini rewinders, UNO wrappers, Infinity wrappers, folded machines, etc.) preferred
Experience with electrical encoders, servomotors, and amplifiers preferred
Proficient with electrical schematics and able to modify and update drawings as needed preferred
LANGUAGE ABILITY:
Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals.
MATH ABILITY:
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily active manufacturing environment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE may include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that may require hearing protection.
