Job Description
POSITION: Groundskeeper/Maintenance A
LOCATION: CSD Grounds Yard (200 Salem Church Rd.)
REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager
CLOSING DATE: July 12, 2026
BASIC FUNCTION: Perform tasks related to maintaining and improving the facility grounds
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
Plant, trim, mow, weed, spray, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow snow, remove ice, spread salt and/or other related functions of a groundskeeper with directions from crew leader
Removal and trimming, pruning of small trees including stump grinding
Mulching of playgrounds and flower beds
Paint curbs and parking spaces when needed
Repair minor pot holes and asphalt when needed
6. Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws, edger, and shears.
7. Operate light or medium weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies
8. Operate light, medium, or heavy tractors and attachments used to maintain grounds as needed
9. Perform pre-check on grounds trucks and equipment (as described in attachment TBD)
10. Prepare and maintain athletic fields
11. Measure, mark, layout, and line all athletics fields for a variety of sports based on prints and diagrams
using proper alignment
12. Assist in snow removal including parking lot plowing when needed
13. Work as directed by Facility Manager
14. Remain up-to-date and informed as to current practices of job related functions
15. Work with co-workers and customers in an appropriate and professional manner
16. Cooperate with other people within the department and other department personnel in completing assigned tasks
17. Display the necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups
18. Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures
19. Attend department meetings as required
20. Participate in fire and disaster programs as directed
21. Assist other District Maintenance personnel when needed and/or during slow grounds season
22. Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Same as Custodian
- Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment as required.
- Must possess a valid Class B driver's license
- Willing and able to become certified in grounds management, sports turf management, arboriculture and/or pesticide application
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain effective relations with supervisor and fellow employees.
- Ability to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for job assignments and equipment used.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds with assistance.
- Willing to be trained as required.
- Three years' experience in grounds maintenance.
- Computer knowledge and ability, or commitment to gain knowledge and experience to use computerized programs such as email, internet, word processing & spreadsheets.
