Job Description
Under basic supervision, the Water Meter Technician assembles, repairs, and tests residential and commercial water meters.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent AND one (1) year of water meter or utility maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must possess a Class B Commercial driver’s license with Tanker Endorsement or obtain license within six (6) months of hire. Must obtain a Class D Water License within one (1) year of hire.
• Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
• Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
• Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures.
• Chemical and water analysis methods.
• Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
• Performing mathematic calculations.
• Reading and accurately interpreting work orders, meters, and water gauges.
• Maintaining and repairing service meters, motors, and pumps.
• Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
• Maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
• Preparing clear and concise reports.
• Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Performs final flow, calibration, and pressure test on all meters; prepares and maintains reports and records on all work completed.
- Installs auto flush sites for chlorine residual monitoring and flush programs.
- Replaces defective water meters; replaces and maintain meter boxes and vaults; performs pressure and flow tests at meters in the system.
- Assists utility crews with repairing mains and services; assists contractors with valve operations of new and existing construction projects.
- Locates water, wastewater, storm drain, fiber optic, and City electrical lines.
- Maintains warehouse parts and supplies to fulfill department needs.
- Performs on call duties as assigned.
