Job Summary
Technical Assistance is responsible for executing and supporting technical projects across ALS Global operations in Africa. This role places a strong emphasis on mechanical artisan expertise, ensuring that equipment, infrastructure, and site operations are installed, and optimized to meet ALS Global operational and safety standards. The incumbent will be responsible for hands-on mechanical execution to deliver efficient, compliant, and cost-effective project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
- Plan and execute mechanical-related projects from initiation to completion.
- Support project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation in collaboration with site management.
- Ensure all project deliverables meet ALS Global quality and safety standards.
Mechanical Artisan Functions
- Perform installation and repair of mechanical systems, laboratory equipment, and site machinery.
- Diagnose faults and conduct troubleshooting on mechanical components and systems.
- Support in assessing, commissioning new equipment and upgrades across sites.
Technical Support & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, company policies, and international safety standards.
- Conduct site inspections and risk assessments related to mechanical operations.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, reports, and maintenance records.
Stakeholder & Team Collaboration
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and artisans.
- Assist in drawing up list of mechanical parts and tools as required on projects.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Support implementation of best practices in mechanical maintenance and project execution.
Minimum Requirements
- Trade Test Certificate / Qualified Mechanical Artisan (e.g., Millwright, or similar).
- Proven experience (Minimum 3 years) in mechanical maintenance and installations within industrial, mining, or laboratory environments.
- Experience in project coordination or project support roles.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic project management tools.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Visio tools.
- Willingness to travel across West & North Africa and work in remote locations.
