POSITION SUMMARY
To carry out programs that provide opportunities for residents to participate in events that maintain optimal levels of mental, physical, and social well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Personally and through interviews of staff members, evaluates the interest and abilities of residents and works with Lifestyle Coordinator to plan appropriate activities in terms of interest, needs and available personnel.
• Evaluates programming quality and participation on an ongoing basis through direct interaction with residents and families. Encourages participation in resident council.
• Communicates with the Lifestyle Coordinator and Lifestyles Manager on a regular basis to inform, exchange ideas, coordinate services and discuss format for individual and group programming. Also shares insight, information and reports responses and/or progress regarding residents on a need-to-know basis, maintaining confidentiality.
• Carries out large, small, and one-to-one events for the purpose of providing any and all of the following: a friendly visitor; sensory stimulation; reality orientation; cognitive stimulation. Informs residents and staff to changes in scheduled programming in a timely manner.
• Recognizes signs and symptoms which signify a change in condition that require nursing intervention and reports these changes to the appropriate channels. Remains alert for conditions that threaten the safety and well-being of staff and residents. Reports hazardous conditions to appropriate channels.
• Communicates with family members to keep them informed of their loved one’s participation in activities.
• Works collaboratively with nursing staff to promote programs and support residents.
QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements and Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of experience working with seniors and/or cognitively impaired persons preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Language Ability:
o Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking the primary language of the residents.
o Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
o Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Mathematical Skills:
o Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
• Cognitive Demands:
o Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Computer Skills:
o Ability to use Microsoft Windows. Ability to use software to design calendars and signs. Ability to use the Internet.
• Competencies:
o Ability to operate a car/truck and maintain a valid driver’s license. Ability to operate general office equipment.
o Ability to maintain confidentiality.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
• Works primarily indoors in a climate controlled setting
• Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
• Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
• Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational
