The Y Playhouse Lead is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, engaging, and fun environment for children ages infant through 10 years old while parents utilize the YMCA facility. This position provides active supervision, leads daily activities, supports staff, maintains safety standards, and ensures all children and families have a positive YMCA experience.
The Y Playhouse Lead will model YMCA values by creating meaningful interactions with children, building relationships with families, and maintaining a clean and organized play environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide active supervision of children at all times
Ensure children are safe, engaged, and accounted for while in the playhouse
Plan and lead age-appropriate activities including:
Crafts
Games
Story time
Sensory play
STEM/science activities
Movement and creative play
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for children of all abilities
Redirect challenging behaviors using positive guidance techniques
Support children with special needs with patience and understanding
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the playhouse area
Enforce YMCA policies and safety procedures
Communicate professionally and positively with parents and guardians
Assist with opening and closing procedures
Monitor supplies and notify leadership when materials are low
Support and guide playhouse staff and teen workers as needed
Complete incident reports and documentation when required
Ensure proper child check-in and check-out procedures are followed
Build relationships with members and help create a family-friendly YMCA atmosphere
Part-time/ Flexible hours including mornings, evenings and weekends/ Parent Night Out events
Additional Duties:
Maintain accurate attendance records.
Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns to the Youth Programs Coordinator/Director immediately.
Active supervision at all times
Reliable and dependable
Team player with positive attitude
Ability to engage children instead of passive supervision
Comfortable having difficult conversations with parents when needed
Ability to lead staff and set expectations professionally.
Qualifications:
Minimum age: 18 years old
Experience working with children ages infant–10 years preferred
Previous childcare, daycare, camp, or youth program experience preferred
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to work independently and multitask
Comfortable handling difficult behaviors calmly and professionally
Creative, energetic, and patient personality
CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
Must pass background check
