
Sr Systems Engineer – Zuora( Service Operations )
Job Description
We're looking for a Zuora Billing Support Specialist who is the go-to person when something goes wrong in billing — and who knows the system well enough to make sure it doesn't happen twice. This is a support-first role: you'll own the day-to-day health of our Zuora Billing environment, respond to issues from Finance and Operations teams, and keep the billing engine running smoothly for every subscription, invoice, and payment we process.
You'll work closely with internal users to troubleshoot problems, answer how-to questions, and resolve configuration issues across the full billing cycle. Beyond reactive support, you'll take on configuration updates — improving templates, adjusting workflows, and tightening up processes that cause recurring pain.
This is a role for someone who takes pride in operational reliability. You understand that billing errors aren't just a systems problem — they affect customers, revenue, and trust — and you bring the care and precision that reflects that.
Day-to-day support and issue resolution
- Serve as the first point of contact for Zuora Billing issues raised by Finance, Billing Ops, and other internal users — triaging, diagnosing, and resolving problems promptly
- Troubleshoot billing failures, invoice errors, payment processing issues, and subscription discrepancies; identify root causes and document resolutions
- Manage user access and roles in Zuora, ensuring proper segregation of duties and that permissions stay current as teams change
- Monitor billing workflows and integrations for failures or data quality issues; escalate to development teams when system-level fixes are needed
- Respond to ad hoc data and reporting requests from Finance and Revenue teams using Zuora Data Query and standard reporting tools
Configuration and maintenance
- Maintain and update Zuora Billing configuration across core modules: Product Catalog, Subscriptions, Billing & Invoicing, Payments, and Tax settings
- Create and update HTML/PDF invoice templates, email notification templates, and custom fields to meet business requirements
- Administer workflow configurations and make incremental updates as billing rules or business processes evolve
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for configurations, known issues, support procedures, and workarounds
Process improvement and stakeholder support
- Work with Finance, Revenue, and Billing Ops stakeholders to understand recurring pain points and translate them into clearly scoped improvement requests
- Identify repetitive manual tasks or error-prone processes and propose configuration or workflow changes that reduce friction
- Support change management for Zuora updates and enhancements — communicating changes to affected users and helping them adapt
- Assist with UAT for billing-related changes: coordinating test scenarios, tracking defects, and confirming fixes before go-live
- Partner with IT and integration teams to support data interface troubleshooting between Zuora and connected systems (ERP, CRM, tax engines)
Experience and background
- 3+ years of hands-on experience administering and supporting Zuora Billing in a production environment
- Demonstrated experience providing operational support to Finance, Billing, or Revenue teams — not just project delivery, but keeping systems running day to day
- Experience working in complex, multi-product or multi-entity billing environments with third-party integrations
- Prior involvement in Zuora sandbox environments and deployment across multiple settings
Zuora Billing knowledge
- Solid working knowledge of core Zuora Billing modules: Customers, Product Catalog, Subscriptions, Billing & Invoicing, Payments, and Taxes
- Hands-on experience with Zuora administration tasks: user access management, HTML/PDF invoice templates, custom fields, notification templates, data interface integrations, workflows, and reports
- Good understanding of the full billing cycle: invoicing, payment processing, payment gateway configuration, revenue recognition basics, and ERP integration
- Familiarity with payment gateways, refund processes, chargeback procedures, cancellation workflows, and country-specific billing requirements
- Working knowledge of Zuora Data Query for ad hoc data analysis and support requests
Technical skills
- Comfortable reading and interpreting Zuora schema and data structures to diagnose issues and validate data
- Basic familiarity with HTML for invoice template maintenance
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for data analysis, reconciliation, and support triage
- Experience working with ticketing systems (JIRA, ServiceNow, or similar) to manage and track support requests

- Clear communicator with non-technical users: able to explain what went wrong, what you did to fix it, and what will prevent it in future
- Comfortable managing multiple open issues simultaneously without losing track of status or follow-ups
- Proactive about flagging patterns: if the same issue keeps coming back, you escalate and push for a permanent fix
