Store Manager Dispsng (non-Pharm) Medium
Job Description
At Boots, our medium-sized stores bring together retail and healthcare in a unique way—and our Kingston Retail Park store in Hull is no exception. Recently refurbished and located on the edge of a busy retail park with free on-site parking, this store benefits from strong footfall and a growing local community, with new developments nearby driving increasing sales. Guided by our purpose, “With you. For life.”, you and your team will play an important role in supporting people through the moments that matter—while also taking the pharmacy side of the business to the next level.
As a Store Manager, you’ll lead from the front—setting the standard for safe healthcare practices, great customer service and a team culture that feels supportive, calm and confident. You’ll take ownership of a store with strong retail performance and real opportunity to grow the pharmacy offering, which is currently focused on NHS services. With the support of your Area Manager, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the store’s upward sales momentum while building and expanding the pharmacy business.
Leading a team of 14, including 3 direct reports—two established Assistant Managers and an on-site Pharmacist—you’ll create an environment where your team feels trusted and able to do their best work, and where customers know they can rely on Boots. Over time, you’ll get to know your customers by name and build genuine connections, creating a destination store for both everyday essentials and expert healthcare advice.
Boots is always evolving, with new services and brands being introduced all the time. You’ll play a key role in bringing these to life in your store—making sure they feel relevant and meaningful for your customers, while identifying opportunities to grow the pharmacy side of the business and increase items.
This is a varied, people-focused role where no two days are the same. You might be supporting your team with dispensing, guiding your store through high-volume trading, helping a customer find the right product, or building strong relationships with local GP surgeries and healthcare partners in a growing community.
The store is open Monday to Sunday until 8pm, so you’ll need flexibility to work five days across the week, including some weekends and evening shifts.
If you’re looking for a role where you can lead a team, drive commercial success, grow people and make a real difference to your local community every day—while shaping the future of the pharmacy business—this could be the next step for you.
What you’ll be doing
As Store Manager, you’ll report into the Area Manager and bring energy, direction and purpose to your store. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll get stuck in on the shop floor, supporting your team, working in the dispensary and role modelling how great care and strong sales performance go together—with a particular focus on growing the pharmacy side of the business.
You will:
- Lead and inspire your team to deliver exceptional service
- Drive sales and performance, maintaining strong retail results while growing the pharmacy business and increasing items
- Take ownership for developing the pharmacy offer beyond NHS services, identifying opportunities to expand and improve
- Build strong relationships with GP surgeries, primary care networks and actively engage with the local community
- Deliver NHS and private services safely and confidently, offering clear, trusted and expert advice
- Work in and run a well-organised and compliant dispensary, where attention to detail really matters
- Champion the Boots brand, ensuring your newly refurbished store stands out
- Lead, coach and develop your team of 14, including 3 direct reports, helping them grow in confidence, skills and experience
- Use data and insight to spot opportunities for improvement and drive performance every day
- Create a store environment your team can be proud of and that keeps customers coming back
What you’ll need to have (our must-haves)
- Retail management experience leading larger or multi-skilled teams
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or other UK equivalent)
- Experience working in a UK dispensary
- Great customer service skills and a passion for customer care
- Ability to lead performance and implement strategy in-store
- A calm, flexible approach with the confidence to adapt at pace
- A collaborative style. Able to build both a strong team culture and profitable external relationships
- Passion for learning and a drive to support others to grow
It would be great if you also have
- Confidence using new technology and digital tools
- Experience coaching future leaders and developing talent
Where your brilliance can take you
At Boots, your career can be as ambitious as you are. As Store Manager in a medium-sized store, you’ll be perfectly placed to build your leadership capability and take the next step. Whether that’s moving into a larger, more complex store, becoming Deputy General Manager of one of our Flagship stores, or ultimately progressing into senior leadership roles such as Area Manager, there’s plenty of room to grow at Boots.
If pharmacy is your passion, you can build your clinical expertise, train as an Independent Prescriber, or move into Care Services or field roles that influence operations, resourcing, clinical governance and colleague development across multiple stores.
There are also opportunities beyond stores. If you’re looking to move into our Nottingham Support Office, we have a variety of roles across areas such as Commercial, HR, Marketing, Buying, Strategy, Finance and Supply Chain.
