Job Description

Responsibilities

Cybersecurity Operations

  • Monitor security tooling and dashboards; perform first-level triage of alerts generated by the SIEM, EDR, and email security platforms under the direction of senior analysts, following defined runbooks and escalating questions or complex events as appropriate.
  • Investigate end-user-reported phishing emails with guidance from senior analysts; analyze email headers, URLs, and attachments using sandboxing and threat intelligence tools; document findings and escalate confirmed or suspected threats per incident response procedures.
  • Participate in security incident response activities as a supporting contributor; execute assigned containment and remediation tasks under direction; assist with post-incident documentation including timelines and actions taken.
  • Support vulnerability management operations, including reviewing and triaging scan results from Rapid7 InsightVM by severity and coordinating remediation tracking with IT asset owners under the direction of senior team members.
  • Assist with Identity and Access Management (IAM) operations, including access reviews, identity lifecycle tasks (joiner/mover/leaver workflows), and identity governance activities in coordination with the IAM team.
  • Monitor threat intelligence feeds and security advisories; summarize relevant emerging threats and indicators of compromise for team review, escalating high-priority advisories to senior analysts.
  • Assist with the maintenance and accuracy of security documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Collaborate actively with senior analysts and team members; ask clarifying questions, seek feedback, and apply guidance to build operational proficiency over time.

Onsite Deskside Support

  • Provide onsite physical support for helpdesk escalations that cannot be performed remotely, including hardware troubleshooting for monitors, peripherals, and workstations that require hands-on diagnosis.
  • Support new hire and employee desk setups, including workstation imaging, peripheral connection and configuration, and confirmation that systems are ready for use.
  • Coordinate and assist with the physical shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking of IT equipment including laptops, monitors, peripherals, and accessories.
  • Perform basic cable management and physical workspace organization as part of desk build and refresh activities.
  • Serve as the onsite point of contact for helpdesk tickets flagged as requiring physical presence; document actions taken and close or escalate tickets appropriately upon resolution.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Foundational-to-developing understanding of core security concepts, including network security fundamentals, common attack techniques and threat vectors, the CIA triad, and security monitoring principles.
  • Basic familiarity with one or more of the following technology domains: Active Directory/Microsoft Entra ID, SIEM platforms (Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel), endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools, email security platforms, vulnerability management tools (e.g., Rapid7 InsightVM), or public cloud environments (Azure, AWS). Hands-on exposure through academic, lab, or internship settings is acceptable.
  • Ability to follow structured security operational procedures and playbooks; recognizes when events or situations exceed defined scope and escalates proactively rather than self-authoring a response.
  • Basic familiarity with PC hardware components, peripheral connectivity, and workstation setup procedures; ability to diagnose and resolve common physical hardware issues with guidance.
  • Comfort with physical IT tasks including equipment handling, desk setup, and shipping/receiving logistics; ability to lift and transport standard IT equipment as needed.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks across both security and support functions with appropriate prioritization.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, accurate ticket documentation and incident notes with guidance, and to communicate professionally with end users during onsite support interactions.
  • Organized, methodical, and capable of maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, a growth mindset, and a self-directed interest in cybersecurity or information technology.

Experience

  • 0–1 year of professional experience in a cybersecurity, information security, IT operations, or helpdesk/deskside support role. Prior internship, co-op, or supervised academic lab experience in a relevant field will be considered in lieu of full-time professional experience.
  • Prior exposure to security alert triage, phishing investigation, vulnerability management, or incident response — in any professional, academic, or lab context — is preferred.
  • Prior experience with PC hardware troubleshooting, workstation setup, or IT equipment logistics in any professional or academic setting is a plus.
  • Any hands-on experience with enterprise or lab security tooling, including SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, or identity platforms, is a plus.

Education

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred. Candidates who are within one semester of graduation will be considered. Equivalent professional or lab-based experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

No certifications are required for this role. Candidates who hold or are actively pursuing any of the following credentials are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • CompTIA Security+
  • CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ (ITF+) or CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA Network+
  • ISC² Certified in Cybersecurity (CC)
  • Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (SC-900)
