Sycuan Health Center is growing, and we’re excited to welcome a compassionate, skilled Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) to our Behavioral Health team. In this role, you’ll provide high-quality mental health services within a collaborative, brand-new, state-of-the-art Health Center, designed to enhance patient experience and support a high-quality, integrated care model.
Job Purpose:
The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) provides mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and groups using systemic, relational, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches. The LMFT assesses, diagnoses, and treats emotional, behavioral, and relational concerns while supporting clients’ overall mental health, resilience, and well-being.
The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) provides behavioral health services within a medical clinic using an integrated, whole-person care model. The LMFT delivers assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based psychotherapy to patients experiencing mental health, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial concerns that impact medical conditions, treatment adherence, and overall functioning. Services are provided in collaboration with medical providers and interdisciplinary care teams.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy
Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans
Diagnose mental health conditions in accordance with DSM-5-TR criteria
Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, schools, physicians, or community providers
Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when indicated
Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards (HIPAA)
Participate in supervision, consultation, and continuing education
Provide referrals and coordinate care with external resources
Job Specifications:
Education and Experience:
Essential:
Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related mental health field from an accredited institution
Current, active, and unrestricted California LMFT license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
Eligibility to bill Medi-Cal and commercial insurance plans (or willingness to obtain)
Familiarity with DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria
Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and time-management skills
Experience working with child/adolescents population and across the lifespan.
Desirable:
Experience in medical, primary care, hospital, FQHC, or outpatient clinic settings
Training or experience in trauma-informed care
Experience working with chronic illness, pain management, grief, or serious medical diagnoses
Experience with EHR systems and integrated care documentation
Skills and Knowledge:
Essential:
Ability to work effectively with culturally, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse population
Knowledge of integrated behavioral health and medical-mental health comorbidity
Prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, and focused clinical engagement
Emotional resilience and clinical judgment when working with medically complex or high-acuity patients
Ability to manage competing priorities in a medical setting
Desirable:
Bilingual skills and multicultural competency
Familiarity with evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, or health psychology interventions
