Job Summary:  Primarily responsible for all processes and tooling in drilling, fabrication, de-tape, and packaging areas.  This includes development of new technologies, optimization of existing equipment and processes, and trouble-shooting of complex manufacturing problems. In addition, lead projects/teams in all areas of manufacturing in resolution of assigned engineering projects.

Production Support:
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing on a daily basis – responsible for quality, throughput, manufacturing efficiencies, and process documentation for defined area of responsibility.
  • Responsible to effectively communicate process changes including documentation, operator training, and process validation.
  • Participate in disposition of daily material rejection reviews.
  • Provide technical support of existing supplier quality issues.
  • Perform other process related support activities as assigned.
Process Development Projects:
  • Develop short- and long-term process solutions for existing manufacturing challenges through solid root cause analysis.
  • Responsible for managing transition of new processes and products into manufacturing.
  • Select, approve, and validate introduction of new materials into manufacturing.
  • Coordinate supplier development of process or materials including validation testing, documentation of specifications and incoming inspection procedures.
  • Manage equipment and automation projects in all areas of the factory as assigned.
Capital Equipment:
  • Responsible for capital equipment definition, justification, procurement, and release to manufacturing.
  • Responsible to manage capital projects and meet expectations for cost and timeline.
  • Design and coordinate building of custom complex equipment/automation.
Process Quality:
  • Responsible for overall quality of fabrication departments including managing continuous improvement efforts.
  • Complete internal and external corrective actions as required.
  • Provide support of PPAP documentation related to processes in defined area of responsibility.
  • Define and implement continuous process improvement through process optimization and controls.
Safety:
  • Propose improvements to safety related operating procedures for production equipment, chemical handling and employee personal safety equipment.
  • Regularly review work areas and examines tools/equipment to detect unsafe conditions or violations of safety rules.
  • Evaluate processes for ergonomics, equipment guarding, and general safety to meet or exceed OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure all Job Hazard Analysis are reviewed when changes are made to a process.
 
Qualifications / Competencies
  • Prefer two years of experience in process or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of tooling materials, design and manufacturing.   
  • Technical knowledge of sheet/foil materials and coating processes and equipment.
  • Statistical knowledge for conducting DOE, experiments for process improvements, root cause analysis.                   
  • Experience with machining and metal fabrication processes such as drilling, punching, coining, forming, and milling.
  • CNC Programming experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer software, Excel, Word, manufacturing software, and project management.
  • Analytical - collects and researches data.
  • Able to problem solve.
  • Able to work on project planning.
  • Able to read a blue print (GDT).
  • Experience setting priorities and providing direction.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Abide by safety and security policies.
  • Participate in Material Review Board Activities and Feasibility Review to meet Customer Specific Requirements as needed.
Education and/or Experience: Prefer engineering degree from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
