
Extended School Year Special Education Teacher and Speech
Job Description
The Highlands School District is seeking qualified and student-centered professionals to provide Extended School Year (ESY) services during Summer 2026. We are currently accepting applications for:
- Special Education Teachers
- Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs)
ESY services are designed to support students with disabilities in maintaining critical skills and progress identified through their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Program Information
Dates: July 6 � July 23, 2026
Days: Monday � Thursday
Student Time: 8:30 AM � 12:00 PM
Locations:
- Highlands Elementary School (Students entering K�3rd grade for the 2025�2026 school year)
- Highlands High School (Students entering 4th�12th grade for the 2025�2026 school year)
Responsibilities � Special Education Teachers
Special Education Teachers will be responsible for:
- Delivering specially designed instruction and related ESY services in accordance with student IEPs
- Implementing accommodations, modifications, behavioral supports, and supplementary aids/services as outlined in IEPs
- Monitoring and documenting student progress toward IEP goals
- Collecting and maintaining accurate data and progress monitoring documentation
- Supervising and directing paraprofessional staff
- Collaborating with related service providers, administration, and support staff
- Maintaining a structured, positive, and safe learning environment
- Supporting student behavioral, communication, functional, and academic needs
- Ensuring compliance with IDEA, Chapter 14, and district procedures
- Communicating professionally with families and staff as needed
- Participating in planning, preparation, and end-of-program documentation
- Assisting with arrival, dismissal, transitions, and student safety procedures
- Attending required ESY staff meetings and trainings
Responsibilities � Speech and Language Pathologists
Speech and Language Pathologists will be responsible for:
- Providing speech and language therapy services in accordance with student IEPs
- Implementing therapy goals and documenting student progress
- Collaborating with ESY staff regarding student communication needs and supports
- Maintaining required service logs and progress monitoring documentation
- Supporting communication systems and assistive technology as appropriate
- Participating in team meetings and maintaining compliance with district and state requirements
Qualifications
- Appropriate Pennsylvania certification/licensure required
- Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational, communication, and data collection skills
