Description of Work

This posting is for the Parts Room Lead Worker position in the Division Equipment Unit of Division 14. This position will function in support operations that include purchasing, receiving, storing, issuing, and maintaining inventory of equipment repair parts, fuels and oils. Supports Parts Supervisor in the solicitation of quotes to purchase materials, verifying incoming materials and invoices for accuracy, and entering data into SAP and Ariba for processing. This position is detail oriented, will deal with various types of people, will require organizational skills, and must be able to develop and maintain programs without a great deal of supervision. This position stands in when the Parts Supervisor is unavailable or off work. This position must have an in-depth knowledge of SAP and Ariba, work unit policies, procedures and practices, knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations applicable to this work unit. The employee must have knowledge of and the ability to use mathematics and their application within the work environment. The employee must have skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing: skill in planning, prioritizing, organizing, and reviewing processing procedures and office workflows. Must have the ability to record, compile, summarize and analyze work situations and interpret program content. Must have the ability to exercise judgement, discretion, and negotiation skills in problem situations and the ability to independently respond to inquires. This position must have the ability to operate a forklift and obtain a forklift license with the NCDOT to perform parts warehouse operations. This position also requires the ability to handle various parts and equipment within the parts warehouse, including but not limited to putting up stock, discarding old stock and making deliveries and pickups of parts from either a vendor or another equipment shop within the NCDOT.
The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: experience managing equipment inventory, experience requesting quotes for purchasing, working knowledge of knowledge of SAP and Ariba, and/or experience identifying automotive and construction equipment parts through use of Websites, catalogs or physical inspection.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC10 $43,267-$75,718

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues
  • Demonstrated ability to identify automotive and construction equipment parts through use of Websites, catalogs or physical inspection
  • Knowledge of parts procurement and inventory procedures for light/heavy vehicle and construction type equipment parts.
  • Experience with physical inventory maintenance procedures (i.e. daily, and annual spot checks/counting)
  • Experience with data entry including invoicing and purchasing

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
