Head of Product & Underwriting Propositions
Job Description
This role is central to shaping TAL’s future by designing innovative product and underwriting propositions that deliver better outcomes for customers and support sustainable growth in our Individual Life business. Operating at the intersection of strategy, data and customer insight, it transforms how we meet evolving needs—unlocking new opportunities, strengthening our competitive position, and redefining the role insurance plays in people’s lives. With a focus on recovery and prevention, this role helps move beyond traditional protection, enabling TAL to create lasting, positive impact for the Australians we serve.
In this role you will:
• Lead innovative underwriting propositions that unlock growth across new and existing portfolios
• Develop modern underwriting approaches that expand access to new and underserved customer segments
• Embed data, medical insight and technology into propositions to drive better customer and business outcomes
• Design product propositions that shift from protection to recovery, prevention and long term wellbeing
• Challenge traditional models to create differentiated, flexible and customer centric solutions
• Influence strategic decisions by translating complex concepts into clear, compelling insights for senior leaders
- Deep experience in life insurance or financial services, with strengths in underwriting and product thinking
- Proven ability to develop and evolve propositions across retail and direct channels
- Strong commercial and analytical mindset, with the confidence to make sound decisions in ambiguity
- Skilled at building relationships and influencing senior stakeholders and industry partners
- Comfortable using data, technology and automation to improve customer and business outcomes
- Naturally curious, customer-focused and open to thinking differently to challenge the status quo
