Job Description

The Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a leading infrastructure contractor delivering some of New South Wales' most significant projects. While the role is based in New South Wales and primarily focused on NSW opportunities, the successful candidate will also contribute to major tenders and strategic pursuits across Australia. With a pipeline of secured and upcoming opportunities, and a well-established position in the market, the business is continuing to invest in its pre-contracts capability and is seeking a commercially minded estimator to play a key role in its ongoing success.

Working as part of a collaborative and experienced tendering team, you will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates, identifying value-engineering opportunities, and contributing to winning strategies across a diverse range of infrastructure projects. This position offers exposure to complex, high-value tenders, the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, and a clear pathway for professional growth within a business that values innovation, technical excellence, and long-term career development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed first principles cost estimates across labour, plant, materials and subcontractor scopes.
  • Use of first principles to develop accurate estimates for Utility based projects (Water and Waste Water Treatment and distribution)
  • Develop competitive pricing strategies aligned to market conditions and project requirements.
  • Analyse construction methodologies and design options to identify cost-effective solutions.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure estimates meet project and budget expectations.
  • Assess tender risks and opportunities and contribute to mitigation strategies.
  • Review and vet subcontractor and supplier quotations for compliance and value.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing movements and competitor activity to maintain competitive bids.
  • Support project teams with budget insights, cost control measures and commercial guidance.
  • Mentor junior estimators and contribute to the ongoing development of the estimating function.
  • Ensure all tender submissions, estimate documentation and reporting are accurate, compliant and professionally presented.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience estimating, preferably within Water / Waste Water, Power or Gas Utility infrastructure
  • Highly desirable: Demonstrated experience in Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) projects, including the development and management of Target Outturn Cost (TOC) and Risk Adjusted Maximum Price (RAMP) models.
  • Proven experience in first principles estimating is essential.
  • Strong proficiency with estimating software, ideally Pronamics Expert.
  • Experience working for local Sydney contractors will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, analytical and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders concurrently.
