The Impact and Responsibilities:
The Impact: The Director, Sales & Relationship Manager for U.S. Public Finance will own and expand senior client relationships, drive revenue growth and retention across assigned accounts, and contribute to broader team priorities through disciplined execution, market insight, and sound commercial judgment. This role requires an enterprise perspective, connecting current operational activity and client coverage to the wider vision of the Ratings Commercial organization.
Bring in-depth professional knowledge and commercial acumen to monitor external trends, evaluate client needs, consider multiple scenarios, and identify opportunities across their assigned market. Collaborate across teams, incorporate diverse perspectives, build consensus where priorities may differ, and leverage internal networks to align resources around client and business outcomes.
Responsibilities:
As an individual contributor, maintain and grow revenue for U.S. Public Finance clients across assigned sectors in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region by developing and executing effective sales and relationship management strategies aligned with enterprise objectives.
Identify and pursue new business and client opportunities, establishing relationships with potential clients and intermediaries to expand S&P Global Ratings’ market presence.
Use market knowledge, client insight, and data to inform prospecting, account planning, and commercial recommendations.
Lead the sales process from prospecting through closing, clearly and persuasively communicating S&P Global Ratings’ value proposition, differentiators, and relevance to each client’s objectives.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring their needs are understood and addressed while identifying appropriate opportunities for upselling and cross-selling services.
Serve as a credible client advisor on complex matters, including capital markets dynamics, credit fundamentals, public finance trends, and the role of ratings in market access.
Monitor sales performance metrics, pipeline activity, and account plans, providing insights and recommendations that support continuous improvement and sustainable long-term value creation.
Conduct market research to understand industry trends, client behavior, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics, and translate those insights into practical sales strategies and client engagement plans.
Plan and manage competing priorities, resources, meetings, and client deliverables effectively, setting clear agendas and operating with productivity and efficiency.
Work closely with internal teams and key stakeholders, including analytical teams, marketing, sales support, operations, and product partners, to ensure coordinated client coverage and aligned execution.
Build consensus across groups with different priorities and leverage relationships across functions and senior leadership levels to advance strategic client and business objectives.
Demonstrate adaptability by working effectively with a range of client personalities, stakeholder styles, and internal working approaches while maintaining focus on business outcomes.
Apply sound judgment in structuring work, prioritizing opportunities, and determining where to focus time and resources for the greatest commercial impact.
Participate in industry events, conferences, and forums to represent S&P Global Ratings, deepen relationships with clients and intermediaries, and strengthen market visibility.
All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of two days per week.
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates:) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $110,000 USD to $175,000 USD. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. What We’re Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 6+ years of relevant experience in sales, relationship management, business development, or client service within a financial services environment.
Established sales experience and a proven record of maintaining strong relationships with U.S. Public Finance issuers, intermediaries, or related market participants, preferably in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region.
Experience in U.S. Public Finance, fixed income, capital markets, banking, credit, ratings, or a related financial services sector.
Demonstrated track record of sales success, revenue retention, pipeline development, and disciplined account management.
Ability to act as an escalation point for complex client matters while maintaining quality, consistency, and strong commercial judgment.
Strong ability to articulate market trends, client needs, and commercial opportunities in a clear and actionable way.
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders outside of the immediate team, business area, or geography while incorporating diverse perspectives into recommendations and client strategies.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly, listen actively, and influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated curiosity and creativity, including the ability to seek out new information, use data to support thinking, and identify more effective ways to deliver results.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, client conversations, internal stakeholders, and deadlines with efficiency and professionalism.
Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
U.S. travel required.
We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, ordinarily at the nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
Preferred Qualifications: (if any)
Advanced degree, such as an MBA or equivalent.
Familiarity with S&P Global Ratings products, services, and role in the capital markets.
Experience coaching, mentoring, or informally developing colleagues to strengthen team capability and performance.
Ability to operate with autonomy while keeping stakeholders aligned, informed, and engaged.
