About the Role:

The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare facility, playing a critical role in ensuring a welcoming and efficient patient experience. This position is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records, which directly supports the smooth operation of medical services. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless coordination of care. Additionally, the Medical Receptionist 1 handles sensitive patient information with confidentiality and adheres to healthcare regulations and policies. Ultimately, this position contributes to the overall quality of patient care by providing organized, professional, and compassionate front-desk support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare office procedures.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
  • Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and billing processes.
  • Training in HIPAA compliance and patient privacy regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival.
  • Manage patient appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Verify patient insurance information and collect co-payments or fees as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical staff or departments.
  • Coordinate patient flow by notifying medical staff of patient arrivals and managing waiting room logistics.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and data entry to support clinical operations.
  • Handle patient check-out processes, including scheduling follow-up appointments and providing necessary documentation.
