Assist in the implementation, design, maintenance, and improvement of the animal management system (AMS) that will be utilized by the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR). Provide technical support and training to AMS users; design and produce reports; and ensure data warehousing integrity.

 

Work Arrangement – Hybrid

 

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES

 

  • Knowledge of SQL and Power BI would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of XML and Python preferred.
  • Experience with cloud hosting platforms such as AWS and workflow applications such as Miro is preferred.
  • Experience in software implementation of new products/services and project management.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education - Work requires a Bachelor's degree in mathematics or a computer-related field, or equivalent coursework or technical training.

 

Experience - Work requires one year of programming or analytical experience with knowledge of several computer languages, programs, or systems.

 

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Work Performed

 

Assist in the implementation of a-tune’s tick@lab animal management system with duties including but not limited to the following:

 

    • Collaborate with functional area directors, managers, and staff to translate process and regulatory requirements into system-based workflows and solutions;
    • Migrate current and master data to the new system;
    • Conduct end-to-end and parallel testing and monitor all system output to ensure performance and accuracy;
    • Contribute to the analysis of specific organizational and procedural issues and the design or modification of the AMS to improve operational efficiency;
    • Identify, document, and track system-specific bugs and defects – including layout issues, API failures, and performance bottlenecks – through to resolution;
    • Develop and provide reporting on both a regular and an ad hoc basis.
  • Serve as a liaison with OIT/OASIS staff to ensure appropriate data management.
  • Work with internal users to develop and modify efficient administrative processes.
  • In collaboration with DLAR administration and training teams, write or modify SOPs and/or Work Instructions related to the AMS.
  • Train external users (researchers, the Office of Animal Welfare Assurance, etc.) on usage of the AMS.
  • Create and modify templates for service requests, health records, etc.
  • After implementation, continue to maintain the AMS and seek opportunities for improvement.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $104,550.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
