Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at SJU is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory sections in General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry for allied health professionals (e.g.nursing students). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and possess relevant teaching or professional experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field.

With a commitment to personalized attention through a low faculty to student ratio, SJU may call on the expertise of adjunct instructors to complement the work of full-time faculty across all of its colleges and schools.

SJU appoints part-time, non-tenure track adjunct instructors on a semester-to-semester basis with no guarantee of consecutive appointments. Re-appointment is based on university need, student enrollment, and satisfactory performance. Applicants for these positions are screened on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the department chair. Compensation for adjunct instructors is commensurate with educational credentials, professional, experience and instructional background. Adjunct instructors are bound to the terms and conditions of employment at Saint Joseph’s University, including but not limited to the Faculty Handbook. Adjunct teaching one or more sections of a one semester General, Organic, and Biochemistry (GOB) lecture and/or lab at SJU's Lancaster Campus within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance to students

  • Instruct an assigned course providing syllabi and other instructional materials

  • Use of university learning management systems to deliver instruction

  • Prepare and deliver course materials (lectures, labs, assignments, assessments) in alignment with departmental learning goals.

  • Maintain course records, grade assignments, and submit final grades in a timely manner.

  • Provide students with regular feedback on performance and be available during office hours or by appointment.

  • Adhere to departmental and university policies and deadlines.

  • Coordinate with course coordinators and laboratory staff as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required.

Preferred

  • The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field, Previous teaching experience at the college level, especially in General or Organic Chemistry and Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and instructional technology, such as learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).

  • May require carrying course materials
