JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director or Designee, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for the safety and well being of participants using the Old Colony Y Aquatic facility during Camp Christina. 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Program Responsibilities
  • Arrive on deck, in uniform, ready to open pool safely, promptly and at the scheduled time.
  • Schedule all lifeguards to ensure safety of pool facility.
  • When acting as a lifeguard/covering breaks, act as a role model guard and embody your expectations of the greater lifeguard team.
  • Plan & Perform ongoing in-services, VAT drops and drills to ensure daily rescue readiness of lifeguard staff.
  • Ensure all in-services and drills are logged and uploaded to teams
  • Ensure all depth markings, life jackets, and pool signage is in place and clearly reflects Old Colony YMCA’s swim test policy.
  • Consistently monitor lifeguards for rescue readiness & professionalism, including consistent scanning patterns, 5-minute strategy, well executed guard rotations, and proper guard placement to ensure clear view of each zone of coverage.
  • Check to ensure all safety equipment is in place, functional and branch emergency action plan is able to be carried out successfully. Report and problems in writing to Aquatics Driector
  • Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor on appropriate forms.
  • Attend all staff meetings scheduled by supervisor and provide updates on what you’ve been noticing/guard and facility feedback, etc
  • Adhere to opening & closing protocols following OCY approved checklists.
  • Ensure management of pool set-up based on scheduled activities.
  • Assist in moving lap lanes, swim testing, placement of depth markers/buoys, and proper fitting of PFDs.
