Job Summary
 
A Motor Aide is expected to carry out a variety of programs developed by an Occupation Therapist (OT) and/or a Physical Therapist (PT). The therapy programs support students in accessing their regular or special education. Their job is to help students practice and learn skills to reach goals and generalize them into the school setting. The GSP works under the general supervision and direction of the OT/PT.  Attendance and physical presence are required and is an essential function of this position.  Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.
 
 
Essential Functions

  • Assist students in practicing and learning skills to reach goals as outlined by OT/PT
  • Carry out programs designed by OT/PT
  • Keep daily data sheets
  • Required to keep daily data sheets
  • Assist students with gross motor, fine motor, toileting, feeding, lifting
  • Flexibility base on student needs

Non-Essential Functions

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • If working in a Title 1 school, one of the following:
    • 48 hours of college credit; or
    • pass the ParaPro exam.

 
Required Prior Experience
None

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • Ability to interact positively with students
  • Ability to assist students in a variety of situations that may arise

Assigned Decision Making
Makes decisions concerning the best way to accomplish tasks assigned by the classroom teacher and related service professionals.  Must take directions well and be able to work within specific guidelines.  Makes suggestions but must be willing to follow directions. Concerns for safety of self and others.
 
Interactions with Others
Positive interaction with students, teachers, Occupations Therapists, Physical Therapists, support personnel, and administrators
 
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervision of students being supported.
 
Budget Responsibility
None
 
 
Working Environment
Work setting is mainly in the classroom setting.  May be asked to work inside and outside the building to accomplish assigned tasks. Working conditions can be in hot and cold weather. May experience stress from disruptive students and/or groups of students.  May be required to drive in adverse conditions.
 
 
Physical Requirements � Not limited to the following:

  •  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear.  Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
