Job Description

Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Sr Test Engineer. 

What you’ll do:

Coordinate and manage Electric testing engineering activities in production areas in order to support existing production line, new product development and new production lines, product transfers, equipment specifications and maintenance, lean manufacturing and EQS deployment, MESH initiatives, and product and quality cost improvements.        

Job Responsibilities
• Determine Electric test methods and specify testing machine requirements for the electrical test of sub-assemblies, assemblies and final product Plan all tooling such as jigs, fixtures, special tools, and similar items for all the Electric testing stations at the plant.
• Evaluate existing machinery, fabrication equipment, tooling, etc for safety, capacity, capability, effectiveness, etc.  Develop detailed technical specifications for new equipment and manage capital projects.
• Take action on the troubleshooting of electricla test equipment failures and support on the root cause analysis of product test failures.
• Outline the required workflow and material handling for the activities related to electrical test, including storage areas, work areas, and workplace layout. Prepare complete electrical test line-ups to test all parts for a product line or for a section and subassemblies. Provide training, guidance and technical support to leaders, operators and team members.
• Support Lean, Six Sigma, and Pro Launch through the creation of Process Maps, Standard Work, Takt Times, Potential Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, Control Plans, and Job Safety Analysis related to electrical test and release of product.
• Estimate the time required to test all parts for a product line or a section based on the most economical methods developed through planning in conjunction with methods, tools, work, plant layouts, and design engineering. Actively reduce current standard times.
• Compile complete cost analyses for a new testing station including cost of new machine tools and the handling of equipment.  This includes specifications for such items as layouts, tooling, machine tools, and material.
• Follow all cost reducing methods through installation and successful test stations.
• Recommend replacements and dispositions of equipment and facilities for a given area and maintain applicable records.
• Plan and control expenditures of the annual facility programs encompassed in the respective area of responsibility and maintain applicable records.  Prepare reports on new methods.
• Take necessary measures to improve the testing methods of product and information in the respective area of responsibility. Lead corrective/preventive actions on his areas of responsibility.
• Safety responsibilities include safety and housekeeping objectives; follow all safety rules and procedures and report unsafe conditions to line management.
• Support EQS initiative by revision and compliance of policies with stress on follow up of FMEA and Control plans.

Qualifications:

Education level    
• Bachelor’s degree Engineering.    

Years and area of experience    
• A minimum of 5 years experience required in manufacturing engineering capacity.     

Technical knowledge     
• Strong skills for problem solving (8D, Pareto, 5 Why’s, A3, etc.)
• Knowledge and experience with electrical test methods.
• Knowledge and experience in electrical subjects, controls and mechanics.
• Experience on Controls engineering, programming, and automation troubleshooting.
• Knowledge on electrical diagram reading and design. 
• Knowledge on basic programming C, C++, Labview, TesStand.
• Knowledge on Automation controls and programing (Ladder/Control Logics, PLC AB, SCADA, HMI)
• Strong computer applications skills; Minitab, Microsoft Office, MS Project, MS Vision, Access Auto Cad.
• Training and Experience with Lean and Six Sigma Tools.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
