Job Description

Contract Period: Permanent / 2-Year Contract

 

We are looking for a high calibre engineering professional to join the Telecommunications Branch of our Power Systems Business Group. Our telecommunications networks cover the full spectrum of technologies including Fibre Optics, Transmission & Multiplexing, Microwave, LAN/WAN, PABX and Radio Communication Infrastructure. The appointee will report to the team leader in supporting the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network system.

 

Major duties include:

  • Plan and design the radio communication network according to the design framework and methodology
  • Plan and monitor the assigned projects to ensure they could be delivered on time and within budget under the required safety and quality standards
  • Assist team leader to evaluate the new smart meter communications technology
  • Liaise and coordinate with various mobile operators, contractors and internal departments to deploy and restore telecommunications services upon user requests, equipment fault and system upgrade and migration
  • Perform smart meter network operation and maintenance works to achieve the KPI target of Telecommunications system availability
  • Monitor the network performance and alarms, perform initial diagnosis and devise fault investigation report
  • Co-ordinate field survey on communication concentrator deployment and optimization of the radio communication network
  • Perform firmware management on smart meter communication components, including the firmware inventory control, change control, firmware upgrade and mitigation for any upgrade related activities
  • Review the network performance and compile performance report in regular basis
  • Perform communication device provisioning and change management
  • Perform study and testing on new initiatives and features/functions of the smart meter network
  • Prepare and deliver clear presentations on analysis results and findings for management reporting
  • Perform duties during typhoon periods, adverse weather conditions, and non-office hours as required

 

Requirements:

  • A recognized university degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computing Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant engineering experience in network design / implementation / operations and maintenance in telecommunication systems 
  • Experience in large scale telecommunications network project implementation and network operations
  • Experience in both wireless/wireline telecommunications network technologies
  • Familiar with in LAN/WAN, Radio Mesh, Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies is an advantage
  • Proficiency of using MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Python, Power BI or other equivalent tool for data analysis is an advantage 
  • Good safety and environmental awareness
  • Independent, result-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Chinese
  • Possession of good communication, interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Holding a valid driving license with Class 2 is an added advantage

 

Candidates with less qualification and/or experience but demonstrate good potential for further development will be considered for a position at lower grade.
