Description of Work

This DMF Fishery Management and Policy Section Chief coordinates the implementation of the Division’s Fishery Management Plan (FMP) development process, including coordination and tracking of implementation. The position is responsible for reviewing/developing state level fisheries management policy. In addition, this position is responsible for review/development of potential legislation as it relates to state fisheries management or associated DMF/Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
• FMP development and implementation
• Fisheries policy development and implementation
• DMF/MFC related legislation review and development
• Supervision of FMP coordinators, stock assessment staff, and MFC support staff.

Recruitment Range - $70,478 - $85,843

The Division of Marine Fisheries

The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) is responsible for the stewardship of the state’s marine and estuarine resources. The DMF’s jurisdiction encompasses all coastal waters and extends to 3 miles offshore. Agency policies are established by the nine-member Marine Fisheries Commission and the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality. North Carolina is a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in environmental work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
