Senior Investigator, Special Investigations Unit, Criminal Law Division, OAG

Salary: $51.55/hour

This is a sworn law-enforcement supervisor position within the Idaho Office of the Attorney General (OAG) assigned to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The SIU handles public corruption cases involving elected county and city officials, and felony-level referrals from local law-enforcement agencies. The Senior Investigator supervises between 5 to 10 frontline investigators or other law-enforcement support personnel and plays an active role in developing and implementing the strategic plan for their unit.

Primary duties include:

• All criminal investigators, including supervisors, are assigned felony-level cases and must be capable of conducting investigations with little or no supervision. 
• Conducting interviews.
• Obtaining and analyzing documents and other evidence.
• Serving subpoenas.
• Obtaining and executing search warrants.
• Arresting suspects.
• Preparing reports and exhibits.
• Maintaining investigative case files.
• Testifying in court.
• Conducting surveillance.
• Responding to inquiries from the public.
• Interfacing with outside agencies.
• Speaking to large groups of people.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Current Idaho POST Certification of Intermediate level or higher.
• Complete a background investigation, including fingerprinting, a polygraph, and a psychological evaluation to the satisfaction of the OAG.
• Pass Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check, and maintain CJIS access.
• Minimum of 10 years of law-enforcement experience, including experience investigating as a detective or in a similar position.
• Must be physically capable of performing all traditional law-enforcement functions.
• Must qualify with a firearm and re-qualify as required by the OAG.
• Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
• Must be able to drive and travel frequently, including with little or no advanced notice. 
• Must be willing to work flexible hours and be on-call as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10-15 years of law-enforcement experience, including supervisory experience.
• Experience in specialized investigations, preferably in public corruption or white-collar fraud but may include Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), narcotics, cybercrime, human trafficking, organized crime, counter-terrorism, missing persons, or other speciality.
• Familiarity with current technology, forensic software, and investigative equipment.
• Advanced training in dignitary/executive protection, surveillance, or tactical operations.
• Idaho POST instructor certification or completion of an instructor development course.
• Demonstrated ability to present effectively to large groups of people, including legislators, law enforcement, and members of the public.
