Job Description

Help tell the story of Boise Parks and Recreation! In this creative and dynamic role, you’ll develop engaging content, support communication campaigns, and help manage social media channels to connect with the community. From promoting recreation opportunities and special events to raising awareness of parks and environmental education programs, your work will inspire people to explore, participate, and engage with Boise’s parks and recreation offerings. Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field or 1-2 years experience in communications and/or social media management.
Creates compelling written and visual content for various communication channels including news releases, articles, blog posts, newsletters and social media posts, as assigned. 

Helps manage and grow the social media presence across platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. Creates engaging content, shoots and edits videos, schedules posts, and responds to comments and messages. 

Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive communications plans and strategies to promote Boise Parks and Recreation’s mission, recreation information and important use and safety reminders. 

Engages with the local community through customer service, outreach efforts, events and partnership coordination to raise awareness and support Boise Parks and Recreation’s mission and various initiative goals. 

Works with staff to draft updates and maintain organization's website, ensuring content is current, accurate and user-friendly. 

Collaborates with department leadership and city design staff to create visual assets for digital and print materials, social media posts and more to ensure brand consistency. 

Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of communication efforts using tools like Google Analytics and social media insights. Adjusts strategies based on data-driven insights.

  • Proven experience in communications, preferably with a focus area in a nonprofit or partnership context.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with an ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
  • Proficiency in social media management and marketing.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with website content management systems (CMS).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Passion for outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship.
Knowledge of:
  • Graphic design principles and tools.
Ability to:
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision and distance vision. Employees will sit, stand, walk, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions. This position works: evenings and weekends, as assigned.
